I’ve been lurking in this thread (and the 2020 BQ cutoff predictions thread ???) and just had to finally post.
First, to say I feel you- I also ran Erie 2019 and had a dismal time based on my expectations. Likely due to a multitude of factors, probably also including anxiety and putting too much pressure on myself.....but anyway. You’ve seen the BQ percentage difference from last year to this year. Of course plenty of people still had great races, but if a few things were off, I think the relative heat, humidity, and sun just put some of us over the edge.
I also wanted to piggy back off this discussion and ask- what is better to do in the off season, building mileage or working on speed? Or a combination of the two, say a mileage building plan with 1-2 days per week of speed work?
I’ve had luck with Higdon plans (I’m aware that’s not popular here!) but I think I’m ready for something new...maybe Pfitz...but I want to build the right base!
OP, I hope you listen to your body and do another race soon if that’s what truly feels right, or hold off if your body/heart are telling you to. Best of luck!!
