Question is: would Vin be at the barricades the next time the alt-right shows up?

Surprising and wondering if he is planning on moving I to Administration there? Look for a young hire of nobody so Vin can take all credit.
Guessing Dunn is gone or Stanford ties enough to buy him at least the year?
They must’ve really upped salaries and travel budgets for Vin because they traveled nowhere and coaches were on very low end of ACC.
Universities (especially public universities) have almost an infinite amount of money to spend. Their budget is backed by the state so they can essentially request as much as they want. The only question is do they want to spend the money? The answer is usually no. In this case they decided Vin was worth it.
Usually T&F/XC at state universities is subsidized by the football program and alumni, and very little comes from taxpayers. Sometimes the state does step in when facilities need to be built. That's the way it is at Oregon, unless you consider Phil Knight's money a taxpayer subsidy. UVa probably raises about $20 million a year for all its sports (not including special funding efforts for facilities). Hiring Lananna signals they either have found a rich angel for the program, or they expect him to go out and find one.
I know Vin is talented, but I seriously doubt he coached at CW Post at age 16......
"Usually T&F/XC at state universities is subsidized by the football program and alumni, and very little comes from taxpayers."
This is shockingly incorrect. Usually the football program operates at a massive loss when compared to other sport programs.
I don’t know that he really had any duties at UO any longer. He hasn’t coached since 2012 when they gave the reins to Robert Johnson. I heard home joke once that the University paid 50% of his salary but 100% of his work was for TrackTown.
I’m sure UO is relieved to off load his salary at this point. They didn’t have anything for him to do.
UVa gets 14 mil a year in student fee money for their athletic programs. It is over $600/student. It is the highest amount among all Power 5 schools.
I really doubt they make money on football, but the most recent year I could find that broken out was 2011, and it was reported they made $3mil on football. Overall their athletic department loses money and will squeak out a small surplus in good years.
Anyway, all irrelevant. They have hedge fund benefactors for the track program.
Mike Reilly will be following Vin.
Just look at past history.
Dang, this is massive news. In my opinion it's him and Wetmore at the top, then a massive gap to the next group of elite college coaches. They were both born in 1953, so they're essentially the same age. It'll be interesting to see how Vin fares after being away from the scene for awhile, but he's won big everywhere so I wouldn't bet against him.
If I had to make a list of 5 schools with the best chance to win a cross country title in the next 10 years, I'd put Virginia in there now solely based on this hiring. In no particular order:
NAU
Colorado
BYU
Virginia
Stanford
Does anyone know if Dunn is in or out?
Somebody link his contract offer if possible. How much is he gonna get paid and what’s the break down.

Is he going to be hands-on in the coaching or will he delegate?
Vin is many things. My understanding is that micro-manager is not one of them. He is often happy to let other people do his job for him.
Lol, clearly you have never gotten a degree in management, nor read anything on strategy, visionary leadership, or the art of delegation.
Keep slinging six-packs at the all-night convenience store.
Listen, he's already been dispised by the fuddy-duddies in the old guard Duck alums.
Some of us old gits are actually futurists. And once the old Ducks (rhymes with old *ucks) sit their wide old arses in those plush articulating seats, stroll the 500m concourse and get a fine local microbrew and set it in their insulated build in cup holders...well, let's just say they will be brought over to a new way of thinking about New Hayward Field and their sport being treated to First Class Digs for the very first time in a long, long, long time.
Cheers!

He hasn't changed that frequently. Wasn't he at Oregon around a decade? It's not his fault USATF's board decided to stage a coo which for some reason is not against the rules or is against rules that can't be enforced.
Correct, Primo. Stanford 1992-2003, Oberlin 2003-2005, Oregon 2005-2019.
It is my belief that if the USATF board hadn’t demanded that he eliminate all conflicts, causing him to step down from TrackTown USA, Oregon21, and Nike, he would have remained in Eugene. After he severed all those ties, the USATF board still refused to reinstate him to the USATF presidency, to which he had been elected by acclamation.
The main reason Vin was suspended as due to his popularity, his election by acclamation threatened certain entrenched gravy trainers at USATF... There has been a lot of nepotism and learn on the job hires in Indy... Vin had the ear of Phil, and that scared some people.
Wahoo MF'ing Wah!
I may have to let them have a look at me. I've been trying to figure out which school I'd let inv ite me for an officy and talk skolly. They're a decent school with some hot smashees. If they don't call me or email me though they have another thing coming as I'm certainly not going to go solicit them, that's their job. 4:15/9:15 out.
With Vin & Mike Reilly departing it begs the question of who will bid and organize the hosting of meets in Eugene. This departure rings of a giant F you to many at USATF and in Eugene. Robert Johnson has NO interest in hosting meets so the Tracktown folks that remain best pressure athletic department admin to seek someone with the talent to attract and host events. Otherwise the new Hayward Field will be the largest practice venue in the sport outside of Athens, Greece.

Urine idiot.
Vin has recruited plenty of talented executives in sports marketing etc.
Tracktown has plenty of talent.

Tracktown Pizza has more executive talent than those Nike leftovers trying to manage Eugene events. They're screwed.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
