I've been dating this girl for about a month now. We weren't really talking about finances but moreso just jobs as we are both looking to leave our current jobs for something else in the next year or so. 401k got mentioned, and she admitted to me she didn't know what a 401k was. I explained it to her without missing a beat, but internally it kind of rolled me back on my heels. You're 33 fvcking years old and you don't even know what a 401k is?
Overall things are going quite well, so I'm trying to decide whether this is a dealbreaker or not. I don't know her finances and don't really need to at this point, but if someone is so financially ignorant at that age, it suggests to me they're a pretty big airhead when it comes to money and probably not long-term partner material. Maybe I'm too harsh though?
