The truth is sponsored athletes in T & F have little impact on sales of shoes.
Companies take great pride in rosters and they make nice social media posts. Truth is a store shoe buyer is looking at the shoe and its features, not the athletes roster.
Consumers don't come in and say I have to have this athletes shoe. They explain what they have been wearing , problems they need solved with a new shoe. Sales person works to get them what they need. Same as an online purchase, info is broken down as to help steer consumer into right product.
Brand awareness is another component, mature brands already have it, up and coming brands like a Hoka benefitted from athletes bringing awareness to the brand, now its past that.
Brand credibility, ok some merit derived from athletes on high performance products, spikes and racing flats.
If all brands dropped all athletes today, do you think they the brands would all collapse and the athletic shoe market would come to an end, no of course not.
Brands sponsoring athletes is a nice thing to give back to the sport, it's a charity of sorts.
