How do you think this process works? You think USATF is faxing them entries and then someone in Peru types them in?
You seem to have infinitely more knowledge about this particular situation than I do. Please educate me.
There is an online system run by the Pan Am people with all of the athlete info. Generally speaking, Team USA athletes had to enter their information in the portal months ago to be eligible for consideration for the team, though some were allowed to create their profiles more recently. That's where the information is coming from that the Pan Am site is pulling for the athletes. Our athletes put their own photos there.
That's why I was able to figure out it was CJ... because it had to be an athlete who had already entered their info in the system, it wasn't going to be some rando. It would be someone ranked relatively high on the 2018 or 2019 performance list in something, and clearly that something was not the 1500 haha.
I am confident there is no person on the Pan Am side updating these things. I am not 100% sure if it is USATF or the USOPC doing the actual clicking of entries, but there is no reason to think any Pan Am people screwed this up.
If the athletes were sorted by first name, it is easy to see how this could happen. But someone should have been triple checking that the entries were as intended...
