This got me thinking of Bekele. How much would he destroy the field if he did cross country skiing. He is already done it in cross country. It would be amazing to see him in a Winter Olympics.
Cross country skiing requires very good technique to be fast. I bet even Junior boys who are fit and have refined technique would destroy Bekele. Also XC skiing courses are very technical. They have requirements to have a certain number of large hills with varying grades. Plus I doubt Bekele's upper body strength comes even close to what a trained XC skier has.
Side note: I spent over a dozen years competing in XC skiing in addition to running before going to university to be a varsity xc & track athlete. So yeah, I know a thing or two.

Why are we speculating about Bekele when we have a bona fide guinea pig already in our midst = Ben True.
After a winter of xc skiing at Dartmouth Ben the True ran his 1st running race since the fall - a 4:02 mile out west. I was impressed. Have been a fan ever since.

Bekele could be great at cross country skiing. He has the power in his legs. He must have seen snow from some of his cross country running or from being at altitude in Ethiopia. It literally snows in the higher mountains of Ethiopia.
Your logic is literally idiotic.
"He must have seen snow"
And I've seen the sky so I can fly an airplane.

I'm not surprised. Ingrid Kristen of Norway won the NYC marathon how many times? Was also the Norway national champion at XC skiing.
Why are so many women such drama queens? You won. Great. Lay down on the track, right in front of the others?

You're kidding. He couldn't even compete close to that level. It's not running:
1. Cross country skiing is a skill sport. Good technique is critical to success. The best skiers have been doing it for a long time.
2. Cross country skiing requires a strong upper body and very powerful legs. Olympic 50k champion Iivo Niskanen is 6'2" and 176 pounds. Silver Medalist Alexander Bolshunov is 6'1", 183 pounds. Bronze medalist Andrey Larkov is 6'1" 176 pounds.
He similarly wouldn't dominate at swimming, rowing, cycling, or speedskating. He is a runner, and he's built to be a runner.

In Kenya, YouTube will show Americans running marathons, and it's just like this.

Xc skiing is a strength power event. Bekele would be dropped on the first hill and you'd never see him again
LOL

Relax your face. Completely! Ask a sprint coach.
If you're one of those people with a long tongue like Gene Simmons, it should be hanging down and flopping around.

Man. He even had Bib #1.
Ever heard of Ingrid Kristiansen? She cross country skied instead of running about 6 months of the year; and was maybe the greatest marathoner of her time.

Wow, am I the FIRST to notice her real secret??? It's the trainers, she's running in trainers. Jason Rexing Certified!
Mike,
Yeah we've heard of her. She also cross country skied for months of the year EVERY YEAR. That makes her an expert skier. Killian Journet is also a great example. He's Spanish but lives in Norway do he can do skimo, xcountry skiing in the winter, but he's been doing it his whole life. Bananabread is an idiot for thinking someone could be good at a sport that requires tons of coordination because he is good at a sport than requires zero coordination (running). Running literally is the easiest sport in terms of required coordination. You have to actually stop your arms from moving when running because they just pump back and forth naturally.

All XC skiers do this when they finish. They have a course that has a finish line, nobody goes through it, like a track.

I used to think exactly like you about Baumann, until I read bis book (probably only available in German). I really do believe him now. E.g. he had just about enough nandrolone in his body to test positive, but not to get a substancial benefit from it. The members of his family who used the same toothpaste had the same levels in their blood...
And by the way: There really was a German tv show a few years ago, where they took some Kenyan runners and trained them to take part in some kind of ultra ice skating event. They never really learned the technique...
(the show was called "real cool runnings")

There are times where this is actually not the best advice, but this isn't really the place to go into it. Sprint coaches can be parrots just like distance coaches. They aren't superior beings.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
