It seems to me that much of the world is in a malaise. Throughout 99.99% of history, life was a struggle to survive. Now that is solver for the most part. Many have thrown aside religion so they are left with a lot of time to simply be depressed. Back in the 1300s, you probably didn't have time to be depressed or without purpose. Your purpose was to find something to eat and make sure you didn't die that night or winter, etc.
Yes -- religion is to blame. The liberalization of society, or whatever.
OR for younger folks, we're living at a time when inequality is as extreme as it has ever been. We listened to people like you had said we need to go to college and walked away with debt on debt on debt. Then we can't buy homes so we rent & our rents go up every month. & our groceries go up every month. all while our wages stay stagnant. & then we're told we need to make as much money as possible to be happy so we compete with each other at work where we're exploited over the number of hours we work for pay that doesn't match it. we all think we're gonna be 1%-ers when the reality is that people who end up there were by and large born there so we're really competing with each other and unhappy for no reason.
Things are comparatively more expensive for us right now while huge corporations are so profitable in the US but really the few at the top are the ones doing super well. & then we have to deal with the bootstraps crowd like you who was able to buy a house and do what you wanted to when you were our age.
