I'm training competitively in Colorado for a marathon and I want to get a GPS watch that's very accurate. I'm going to be running on mostly open and fairly straight dirt roads or trails. I'll probably be running on dirt roads in the Rockies at 7,000-8,500 feet as well. I think that those roads aren't covered by trees that much, but I'm not sure.
I'd also like to have my watch be able to accurately measure my heart rate, but it isn't essential, and I'm not really willing to wear a chest band. There aren't any other features that I really care about.
I'm willing to spend up to $500 or so, but I'd prefer to spend in the $200-$300 range.
