Two of the fastest women right now over the 1500-5000m distances are horrifically skinnky, by definition severly underwight.
Klosterhalfen: 106 lbs at 5'9" (15.7 BMI)
Hassan: 108 lbs at 5'7" (16.9 BMI)
I was surprised to learn the Diaba, who is has similar speed, is not much heavier, only 115 lbs at 5'6", though looks so much more heavily built.
Skinny for sure. Not horrifically so, however. I raced at 112-115 lbs at 5’8” back in the day (late teens). And I’m male and carried a lot more muscle than Koko. I ate right and didn’t feel undernourished.
As an aside, I find it curious that BMI is calculated the same way for males and females.
The last time a person was that skinny in Germany, people got brought to the Hague. Anorexia is not a good long term training strategy.
Grete Waitz was 5'8 and 115 pounds.

LateRunnerPhil left out bone structure, this has a big bearing too, you can lose fat and muscle, but not bone.
https://www.coachmag.co.uk/lifestyle/4511/ectomorph-endomorph-or-mesomorph-what-is-your-body-typeI don't know the answers to KoKo's weight but that article is trash and I haven't even read it. They say you can't judge a book by its cover but that you can from that headline. Anyone who uses somotypes like Ectomorphs or Mesomorphs in a physiological terms is an idiot and uneducated full stop. Those are psychological terms and were declared as trash 30 years ago in that field, how they got accepted into fitness and became buzzwords is laughable and purely broscience.
Lol, Fromage and Hardloper the LR experts, I'd even rather go with Runners World than those two:
https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/health/weight-loss/g776064/running-and-body-type-which-one-are-you/Anyone know what Koko's diet consisted of?
Whats her calorie intake like?
She looks so good blazing off the track and her frontrunning style is incredible.
I want to be like her one day, maybe weight loss is definitely an optimal way for me to get faster now

Helps if you're a natural ectomorph to start with, otherwise it's impossible to be like her.

What are you talking about? That is just a throwaway handle I used because I was eating a cheese pizza when typing.
Read up on constitutional psychology from the 1940's and you'll see what nonsense these articles are spouting. It's an old psychology term and has been debunked before you were ever born. It was never intended or accepted in physiology.
At the end of the race, take a look at how much a skeleton Kiprop is back in 2015. Definitely thiner is faster if you can only avoid not killing yourself in getting so thin.
I don't understand. It's like one second this thread is about her running an amazing performance and then we get halfway through page 4 and it's "Okay, lets have a thread about eating disorders and body image".
None of you are medical professionals that are directly involved in her health. No one cares about your assumptions. She's been at an elite level for several years with no problems and now she's working with the most resourced training group in the world. If there was a problem, it likely would have came up by now.

And he ran 1:43 in the 800m that year. Despite some posters belief, you can be thin and still have speed.
LateRunnerPhil- Have you run in the shoes yet?

Not one of us knows how or what she eats. She may very well be eating the same way that we do. Albert Einstein and I can both read the same book and use the information gained very differently.

This is voodoo science, much like climate change
Who cares about body type/looks? KoKo is smashing records willy-nilly. This is incredible to watch and I hope she takes a shot at the WR in the coming years. The question is, can she beat Sifan Hasssan, in perhaps a championship race, who is arguably a more experienced and stronger athlete?

It's a good question yet, as good as Hassan is, she has won few championship races. I'm not sure either of these women is the favorite in a championship 5 or 10.
I wonder how many seconds a mile Koko would save if she clipped 6" off of her ponytail.

Then she’d be down to 104 lbs
Alina Reh’s hair is hardly aerodynamic either

I was thinking that about Dalilah Muhammad: That hair's got to add some significant wind drag and weight when you're dealing with hundredths of seconds over a full lap. What would the WR be if her hair was like a male African runner's? (Anyone notice that Kenyans shave their heads and Ethiopians just keep it very short?)
Good luck anyway. wrote:

Clenbuterol.

The favorite for me is still Obiri although she has been inconsistent (but usually very good in championships races).

It used to be even longer. She could compromise, keep the long hair but put it in a braid which would be more aerodynamic.
Don't thyroid meds help also?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
