More and more Swedish munipicalities facing bankruptcy, due to high Migrant costs.
Officials in Bengtsfors havesked the national government for aid due to the enormous financial taxpayer burden as a result of taking in too many welfare-dependent migrants. Costs in municipalities that have received new (migrant) arrivals have continued to be substantial even when government revenues have stopped. This creates a large negative hole in the municipal cash register.
Hässelholm faces financial ruin as 80% percent of 3000 migrants (asylum seekers) remain on welfare after 3 years. Social assistance costs have surged from 3 million euros to 5 million euroes, and are expected to increase by another 500000 euros every year.
One impetus behind the municipality’s looming financial crisis is the termination of the establishment period – a two-year period where previously the Swedish national government pays the cost to house and attempted integration of migrants. Support grants are then necessitated when they do not succeed.
