Will Cragg prove her Tokyo race wasn't a fluke?
Huh???
She's the reigning Olympic Trials champ.
She finished 9th in the Olympic Marathon.
She earned a World Championships Bronze Medal.
She ran 2:21 in Tokyo.
I don't think you can use the word "fluke" when discussing Amy Cragg.
He was referring to her dropping a huge PR in Tokyo but very limited (albeit a decent 10km) since then. So is she a 2:24 player, or a 2:21? We'll see in the Bankrupted Cesspool of Chi-town whether or not her Tokyo time was indeed a fluke or not.
I predict that Emma Bates will rock. So will Steph Bruce. Both in the 2:25ish range.
That is all.
So stoked to see Jerrell Mock tackle 26.2 for the first time. This guy crushed his first year racing post-collegiately w/ 3 top-10 US Road Championship finishes as well as a 62:15 at Houston (somehow unnoticed). I wouldn’t be surprised if he debuts at 2:11 - dude’s meant for the marathon.
Also, somewhat unrelated, he might be the leanest runner in the US.
Hmmmm.... the American field is very very white.
No marathoners of color?

No way he beats 2.06 Rupp

Rumor has it that Chicago isn't excepting more runners in it's elite field. So Americans chasing the standard are sol.
I couldn't get in with a 2:17 PR so not sure why they are limiting the field so much or what their criteria is.
22 men in the elite field to 13 women. That already isn't great so I assume they had to cap the men's field at some point. There are so many female OTQ-ers I'm surprised they didn't reach out to everyone within a couple minutes from the A standard. Maybe they did but that's what I would've done & then let in everyone under 2:19. The 2:18 guys slower than you are all somewhat local. Again, I don't know if you're local but that definitely has something to do with it & if your 2:17 came at CIM & theirs didn't maybe they didn't see it as a big deal.
Also, nobody is saying you can't race right? They have the American Development Corral. You would still get the pre/post race hospitality, warm up area, elite start, etc. It wouldn't hamper your race at all. I think you'd have to pay your way but maybe the race would comp the entry since you have an OTQ. Pretty sure there is prize money for hitting the OTQ so if you have friends/family in the area you can still make out okay. I'm sure they're not paying travel for the slower guys on that list but, again, some of them won't need it.
Gonna go out on a limb here. Either Cragg or Derrick or both will be a late end due to injury
Cragg is good . . . but.... wrote:

Please tell me all about the woes of a bankrupted Chicago from the outside without any critique of capitalism/corruption. Do a quick search for parking meters & for lincoln yards. The city just gave $1.3 billion to developers. We're not broke we have a priorities problem.
Anyways, this race should be fun. Hope Amy runs well.
Is Soren K in the mix?

Would he take 18 min off his pb on a record eligible course?

Wow. If you're right you'll be back to boast about it. If not, you'll use a different handle and come up with another possible scenario. You're amazing!

The American Development Corral is closed, and has been for at least a month. So yes, lots of people who were looking to use Chicago to either chase an OTQ or improve their B standard to an A standard are screwed.

Mock could very well be the second American to finish behind Rupp. I agree that he could run 2:11. The Dreamers know how to prepare for a marathon.

Oh, well that changes the bottom half of my post I suppose but the top half that you didn't quote explains, to some extent, why a 2:17 guy couldn't get in. Already too many American men compared to women. No reason why a big race like this can't take 50 men & 50 women & still have the ADC corral.
I thought ADC registration closed September 1 but maybe there is a cap? Still worth it for the 2:17 guy to reach out & see what they can do? Would be very surprised, although maybe I shouldn't be, if they just take a strong no stance for letting him in. I assume a lot of OTQ hopefuls filled up those OTQ spots knowing they wouldn't be in the elite field. Don't know what the timeline was for hearing if you made the elite field to when ADC registration filled up was but assume there was a window he could've registered.
I still think it's worth reaching out. This is a race that makes plenty of money. If you've run 2:17 & can pay your way, I don't see why they wouldn't be willing to budge.

I saw Galen running on the Lakefront Trail in Chicago on Saturday morning. When I first saw him from a distance I thought whoever it was looked very thin. My second thought was that it looked like he had a hitch in his stride. Then I realized who it was.

Twelve days since the US runners were named, nearly time for the international elites?
