That's the key - Steve Vai used to practice 10-15 hours a day! Ravi Shankar used to do the same and tie his hair up in a ponytail and attach it to a string going to the ceiling so that if his head started nodding and he fell asleep while practicing it would pull on his hair and wake him up. Very very few people have that kind of dedication.
Music and running both have people with natural talent that you may or may not have, but all the successful people are willing to put in the work, day after day, year after year. You can get much better than you imagine if you're dedicated.
Runners need a good coach and musicians need a good teacher - try to find one.
