15 lb weight loss, 1:30 faster 5k?
15 lb weight loss, 1:30 faster 5k?
Depends on what weight you are at right now, what your PR is, and if you lose fat or muscle
I'm like 176 ,5ft9. I used to run mid to high 18s when I was 168. Got hurt and got fat long story short lol. Still been running but not eating right... Not genetically gifted with a 140lb frame like most.
I'm also 47 yrs old, just wondering what I could run if I were say 155 to 160.
There is no special recipe to get there just run, eat , sleep, repeat and a bit of exercise for your target areas and you can see the difference.
The fat you eat is the fat you wear.

I was 176 lbs 5’8”. Dropped down to 155 lbs. night and day. My 5k pr at 176 lbs became my opening 5k in the half marathon. It wasn’t all weight loss though, as I had some fitness gains as well. I never did run an all out 5k at my lower weight, but I’d estimate around 2 minutes faster, maybe more. (Mid 24 to mid/low 22). Age 50 at the time
For me it seems roughly 10 pounds per minute in the 5k. My recent times are 28:45 at 275, 27:21 at 260, 22:52 at 215. Bigger break in-between the last two times obviously. Training has been more or less the same from a time/effort perspective. Heat increased significantly better the last two times, which is a big effect for fatties like me.
I still have a lot of weight to lose obviously and am not exactly as highly trained as the typical letsrunner.
Hopefully will see how well my theory holds up at 175 by the end of the year, am hoping to go sub-20.
That's interesting. I ran 17:31 @ 160, then 18:40 at 168. Just wanted to hear other testimonies. I haven't done a race this yr. Thinking I'm going to start a good push to a fall PR
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Guys between age of 45 and 55 do you think about death or does it seem far away
