SF schools destroying Depression era murals -- Unbelievable

It is a travesty and the fact that the NY Times letters are full of criticism for this absolutely staggeringly foolish and destructive act shows that the vast proportion of Democrats oppose any such censorious and historically destructive actions.

Sounds like an interesting piece of art. I think it's pretty acceptable to want to remove a mural showing a dead indian and slaves from a public high school.

The mural seems worthy of saving, but not appropriate for the location. It's just a victim of being located somewhere that is better being left without any potential controversy.

It's been there since 1936. Have kids been harmed along the way or maybe provoked to think? It's disturbing that this is considered acceptable. Only in today's super Woke Olympics could this happen.

I see that vast Woke Army on LRC can scarcely be bothered to consider such a thing as their bubble becoming dangerous. Perhaps if the story featured the indignities imposed on where the trans go pee there would be more interest.

Exactly. Extensive media stories to date have left out the issue of cost. Why not have some local activist graffiti artist do it for free? As usual, the whole controversy was mostly a way for local bureaucrats to enrich themselves with tax dollars.

In Budapest there is this outdoor museum with a bunch of communist era statues and communist memorabilia—Memento Park. There is a lot of explaining and info along with the Statues. They also converted an old communist era secret police station into a museum—it’s called the Terror Museum. Similarly there is a lot of information about the communist era.

I think something like these Hungarian museums would work well in the States for things like this and all the civil war era statues. Just move them to museums and explain their historical significance. The most important lessons we learn are from our mistakes. We shouldn’t erase our mistakes, we should shine a bright light on them lest we repeat them.

You must be okay with the long time egoistic trend to name things after politicians. Their names must be permanently protected, even though someone from the future has no clue who they were, or what made them so important.

I've not ever understood what rights single gay people in The States don't have as compared to what heterosexual might enjoy. Would you be kind enough to explain? Its not really even a concept here in my country.

The artist's protest message had to be made indirectly in this government-sponsored art: "Racist double-dealing Whites walk over Native Americans on their way to build the nation." However, SJWs are not noted for their ability to appreciate indirection - that requires venturing out of the safe space.
