She was first in World under 20 xc in 2008 and 2009, 11th as a senior several years later. She actually competed four times in the World under 20 xc competition. I don't know whether that was likely for someone honest about her age.
She dropped 8 seconds in the 1500m from 2011 to 2012. That would be one inflection point for doping. The second would be 2014 to 2015. After a poor year with 4:01 as her best, she dropped to 3:50 below all doped Chinese and Soviet Bloc athletes. Yet, in the Olympics and World Champs, she's been not that great, a gold and bronze in the doped Wunderjahre of 2015 and a silver in 2016. You'd think someone 5-6 seconds clear of everyone at 1500m would do better than that, except that she lost to some doped characters like Ayana, who could run 1:57 at the end of a 5000m, and smash a doped Chinese 10000m record. Aden's group was busted for the Moroccan ex-pat who ran 3:50 for the mile at 17; our favorite Makhloufi was with Aden when he won gold in 2012; Aden and his trainer's rooms were busted in Spain with large quantities of EPO and other drugs while Dibaba and her sister were there in Sabadell training. I have no idea whatsoever as to why Spain never moved forward with the trial in three years. Bribes? Incompetence?
As for Simpson, there's rarely been a runner where I said she looked more honest and straightforward, no residual guilt on her face ever.
