I've thought about deleting it. But then keep coming to why it should be deleted. I don't think just because something makes me uncomfortable means it should be deleted. The OP draws a conclusion that I disagree with from an article that is in the news. It has some pretty serious unproven allegations but they are coming from what appears to be a legit King biographer.
What is wrong with letting people discuss this?
I think the most problematic thing is it tries to present the allegations as fact in the headline, and use the word "rape". But I think anyone who reads the thread can see these are allegations and this is one guys opinion.
I see there are articles on this in the Times of London and more reputable papers than the Daily Mail.
That's where I stand. So I don't see the problem in letting people discuss these explosive allegations. Would it be better if the OP did it in a more nuanced way. Of course.
The myth and aura of any great human will never match the reality. We're all sinners and fall short of ideal. Not that all sins are equal, but pretending these tapes or summaries aren't out there doesn't make them go away.
Let's just take the affairs and ignore the other allegations. I think it's well established by MLK scholars that he had extra marital affairs. Should that diminish in anyway what MLK did for the civil rights movement? Not at all.
I often think learning to deal with and discuss things that make us uncomfortable is better than ignoring them so that's why for now I'm leaving it up.
But I could come to the conclusion my judgement is wrong.
