Could you try to explain your logic here? No offense, but it would help to provide some kind of actual explanation, otherwise you’re wasting everybody’s time. Lately, this thread is filled with a bunch of arbitrary “pre season rankings” with little to no detail on how they have been constructed. And let’s be honest, if you have SLU ranked that high you probably run there. So go do some research and come back with quality content because you can’t make a bold prediction like this AND fail to back it up.
I think these will be the rankings going into the season!
1. New Jersey City
2. Drew University
3. Staten Island
4. Baruch
5. Sarah Lawrence
1. New Jersey City will be led by Senior Muhammed Jawneh who is looking to improve on his 275th finish at regionals in 2018. He's steadily improved his mileage from 5mpw to 105mpw within the last year . Look for him to be top 10 at regionals in November.
2. Drew University is Tony Pham will be leading the Rangers. With a blistering 34:21 8K to his name, he's looking to All America this fall after putting in a monster track season and summer base mileage phase
3. Spencer Milito is the top returner for the Guidos of Staten Island. With a 29:25 to his name, he should be a threat to make it into the top 230 at regionals.
4. Baruch is led by Victor Carrano. He has a 27:38 to his name and should be running 24:30s this fall after a monster summer hitting up the clubs of Manhattan. Watch out for Victor!
5. Sarah Lawrence: They let guys into this school?
I have nothing to do at work, so I took some time to put together some rankings.
1. RPI - Clear cut number one in the region right now. They have more than enough depth to make up for losing the O'Connor's, with 8 returners going sub 15:20 in outdoor (5 under 15). Jaques and Falasco both have a shot at the individual title.
2. Geneseo - Definitely the 2nd best team in the region right now. They return 4 guys that were top 25 at regional last year, plus their 7th guy at regionals broke 15 in outdoor. An injury could put a damper on their season because there is a bit of a drop off after number 5. McAneny should be the slight favorite for the individual title. They would need a breakout season from somebody to take down RPI.
3.Ithaca - The battle for the 3rd spot looks pretty tight right now. I gave the edge to Ithaca because they have good depth and a top 10 returner from regionals. Their top 5 returners from regionals all finished 56th or higher and they had a few other guys run good 1500s/10k in outdoor.
4. Brockport - Brockport is coming off a strong track season where they had 3 guys run 15:10 or faster. Throw in the 3 sub 33 10k guys and a 9:47 steepler and they have solid depth too. Their main problem right now is they do not have a low stick like the other top teams in the region.
5. SLU - This team has the 3rd best returning top 3 in the region, but there are a lot of questions surrounding them. Their top 3 all put together pretty disappointing track seasons, which is not a good sign because they need them to be near the top of the region to perform well. They did have 2 other guys step up in track and perform well, so it looks like their 4 and 5 will be better this year than last year. If everything goes right for SLU they could compete for an auto bid, but there is also a good chance that they will be one of the region's biggest disappointments.
6. Rowan - Rowan only returns 3 top 50 runners from regionals, but they had an outstanding track season. They had 4 guys sub 15:10 in the 5k and one of those guys did not run at regionals last year. Behind those guys there is a big group of guys in the 15:40s, so they have good depth as well. The only reason they are ranked 6th instead of 3rd or 4th is because they seemed to under perform in xc last year.
7. RIT - RIT does not have particularly strong depth, or super strong top end talent, but they do have 4 returners who finished in the top 60 at regionals last year. One worrying thing is that their top 2 returners have not raced since xc, so there is some definite uncertainty here. They could probably compete with anyone ranked 3-6 if only 4 runners were scored, but unless they have a stud freshman coming in their 5th man could be weak.
8. Oneonta - Oneonta returns 3 top 50 guys from regionals, with 2 of those 3 being top 25, and the 3rd guy running sub 32 in the 10k. After that there are some question marks. They have a couple guys who ran good 800/1500 times in track , but how well those times translate to xc is yet to be seen.
9. TCNJ - If TCNJ did not blow up so badly in xc year in and year out I probably would have ranked them higher. They have 5 returners who broke 15:20 in track and a guy who went 9:25 in the steeple. They have pretty good depth behind those guys too. If they finally perform well in xc then I could see them fighting for 3rd place, but I would bet on them disappointing again.
10. NYU - I think NYU could suprise some people this year, but I am not confident enough in them to rank them any higher than this. There is a chance that NYU is a borderline top 5 team this year. If they do end up performing that well it will probably be because they have a tight pack similar to Brockport last year. They have 4 solid returners from regionals, as well as a few other guys who performed well in track.
1 and 2 seem to be pretty much set in stone, unless an injury or breakout year shakes things up. After that there is a lot of uncertainty. I think every team 3 through 9 could reasonably be switched around right now. It is going to be interesting to see how things shake out.
When removing the seniors from Regionals, below is the top 50 individual list below (I am only going off of Regionals from last year and not sure if some of these guys are returning or not in the fall and if any of these teams sat anyone out that will be returning):
1. Geneseo: 1, 4, 8, 11, 15 = 39
2. RPI: 2, 3, 5, 17, 18 = 45
3. Ithaca: 10, 23, 30, 31, 40 = 134
4. SLU: 7, 9, 12 (need to two more to develop)
5. Oneonta: 6, 16, 35 (top 3 = 57)
6. RIT: 14, 25, 29, 41 (top 3 = 68)
7. Rowan: 13, 21, 34 (top 3 = 68)
8. Brockport: 20, 22, 27 (top 3 = 69)
9. TCNJ
10. NYU
What Regionals from last year shows us:
It is going to be a battle between Geneseo and RPI. When looking at track times, Henry Jacques of RPI is sure to move way up, but seemingly so could Matt Sayre and Riley Grossman of Geneseo. This could essentially be a duel meet between these two teams. If going off of track times, RPI gets the advantage over Geneseo. This could be a close meet or RPI could blow it wide open for the win. Outside of Geneseo and RPI, Ithaca brings back the most depth, but SLU has the better front runners returning. I tend to believe SLU will develop a few runners and be in the mix of 3-4 this fall, if not breaking into the top 2 if injuries happen to one of the top 2 teams, but those teams will surely have someone step up if that happens. Oneonta, Brockport, Rowan, and RIT all seem somewhat comparable through each of their respective top 3, so it will come down to who steps up to be their 4th and 5th runners. TCNJ is as talented on the track this past spring as any of the top 3 teams so they certainly a threat. NYU to round out the top 10.

I’ve been around for a while and enjoy watching the region. I think we all thought Geneseo was going to have a down year last year and while they did at the national meet comparatively they were tough against a RPI team that on paper was better- beating them 2 out of 3 times. This year while RPI may have better track times Geneseo returns the best squad in XC. I ran for a SLU team that was dominant in XC against RPI but every year in track those guys beat us good. RPI is not a XC team, they’re made for the track. I don’t see them beating Geneseo and I actually see TCNJ and SLU challenging them.
I believe that someone also said earlier that Evan Page, a 30:38 10k guy has eligibility for Cross this year.

RPI not an XC team? You forget they won regionals with
Jackson Tate- OUT
Henry Jaques- OUT
Luke Holtzman- Graduated
What now?
What happened to Henry Jaques?
Mitch Ryan, Jared Iacovelli and Nick Mercantonio will be returning to Cortland this fall. GO Red Dragons!
Ithaca third? Get the hell out of here. That was probably the worst take I've ever seen on this thread. Chris Singer and Forrest Stewart are their 1-2 and both had terrible track seasons.
RIT should be ranked higher as they return Otto and have a transfer too.
As for SLU, what happened to Vielhauer?
Singer ran an 8:35 3k in indoor and a 3:57 1500 in outdoor. That definitely isn't terrible. Stewart did not run terribly in indoor and outdoor track either. He ran 4:22 in the mile, 8:43 in the 3k, 15:28 in the 5k, and 32:02 in the 10k. Those look to be PRs for both of them, so they are not regressing.
I'm pretty confident Otto has used all 4 years of his eligibility. On his RIT xc profile it says he competed at a different college as a freshman before spending 3 years at RIT, so he has definitely ran cross country for 4 years. Who are they getting as a transfer?
I have no idea what happened to Vielhauer. He had an ugly track season. If he struggles in cross too SLU is going to have a bad season, unless they bring a couple impact freshman.
Ithaca is and will continue to be irrevalent
Finally someone said it

If we're speaking facts, Oneonta is drastically underestimated.
