"Everybody" wasn't doing it, because there were thousands of riders who weren't getting contracts or making money in the sport because they refused to dope (even though they were likely just as talented or worked as hard). That's the point. Dopers took money and spots away from those clean riders, most of which were forced out of the sport.
That's what Sage is trying to say.
If so many people are doing it and it’s the norm for the “major leagues” then you can’t say that any one person is taking spots away from anyone. If Lance was not doping then his “slot” and his money would have been taken by someone else who was also doping. There would be zero change to the experience of the clean rider. Facts are facts. Wishing that reality was different doesn’t change anything. We are talking about reality. Not theory.
