We like to think of Ethiopians and Kenyan runners as super skinny when in reality they are just close to the average for their regions. Americans is just fat.
I kinda understand the sense of superiority American tourists might feel abroad now. When you're 50 pounds heavier than everyone around you of course you can walk around with a dominant better-than-thou attitude. Who is going to dare challenge a giant?

I would’ve expected Asia to be slightly heavier than Africa, not the other way round.

It's because African's tend to have higher bone density and also has regions of very tall people like Congo/Sudan, etc. And Western Africans like Nigerians tend to be a lot more muscular. The African numbers are really skewed by the pygmy tribes and the thinner tribes of which most East Africans belong to.

Pretty much same muscle mass, just excess weight in the form of fat. If you ever did any sort of combat sport like wrestling, judo or boxing you'd know some dude that's 150 ibs of solid muscle will beat some fat 200 pounder 9 times out of ten.
