Dude is somehow biggest name in sprints right now despite not being a likely 2020 Olympian. My mom knows this guys name. My friends who have no clue about pro running have seen this guy run a 400. I don’t care if he never makes an Olympic team but he is the most marketable he’ll ever be right now.

Six men are on U.S. 4x100m relay team. Team will qualify for 2020 Olympics. I doubt Matthew Boling will be top six at 2020 U.S. Olympic Trial, 100 metes. Three men will qualify for 2020 Olympics 200 metres. I doubt Boling will be top three at U.S. Olympic Trials, 200 metres. Six men are on U.S. 4x400m relay team. Team will qualify for 2020 Olympics. Boling has an opportunity to be top six at U.S. Olympic Trials, 400 metres. There is no reason why Boling cannot be a FAT sub-44.50 400m man by this time next year. FAT sub-44.50 will get Boling on U.S. 4x400m 2020 Olympic team. Boling needs to stay away from marketing people and just focus on getting faster and more fit.

If he wants to be allowed onto the USA 4X100 team, he needs to prove that he can consistently drop the baton and/or hand off outside of the zone.
I've zero reason to think this, and am not trying to tar young Bollings name, but does USATF PED test record setting kids? I think the answer is no, as they don't the boys running as girls (whose bodies are producing the PED).
My 2c, if he can, take the Drew Hunter route, defer college, take the money.
Ledecky (swimming long distance gold medalist) waited out Stanford a year to focus in 2016 Olympics, then returned and did 3 years before going pro. My 20/20 hindsight view is she should have gone pro initially.
I agree. If he can get $100k per year plus college, take it. You can tear an Achilles and be done.
If his parents can afford to send him to a private school, they might not be thinking about that risk as much. I think what's a top priority is having a regular teenage existence, it could be a relatively stressful gap year travelling to Europe all the time and doing a heavy race load.
I doubt he's that far removed from a 400 slot at his current speed.
