Top US 5,000m runners:
1. Chelimo
2. Erassa
3. Jenkins
4. Hunter
5. Fisher
6. Mead
I think the top 3 above will be the team for Doha. Maybe Ben True but idk when he’s opening up.

Great run from Kerr and will only go quicker at the 5km. I think low 3.30s in the 1500 this year or next.
Scanning the results and seeing Tom Farrell running 3.47 ? What is this all about I ran 3.51 last year training through a really bad Achilles and working 50 hour weeks and I'm not an elite runner - ridiculously poor time. This guy really needs to have a look at what he's doing as he going backwards fast. Very poor run.
Ohare another decent run over 5km so looking good here.

3. Jenkins
Close but
I am a big Drew hunter fan. But there are lots of similarly ability 5000m runner right now in my opinion.
I got
1. Chelimo
2. Jenkins
3. Mead if he decides to run it.
4. Hunter/erassa
Just my thoughts
Mead? No freaking way.

He has sucked for a loooong time- like 3 years- beginning with a 13:50(?) in his Olympic semis.
On the Farrell subject surely this guy and others like him cannot be given new shoe contracts in the future I mean come on is the standard at which you can be rewarded for ? Pathetic running really for full time trained runners. There must be some health issues here that are not known about.
Totally agree. How do guys like Farrell, Abda, Fleet, and several other Nike athletes still have a contract while plenty of unsponsored “pros” are running faster with no contract? It’s not like they have a big social media presence either.

Add Mead into that group. What's the common denominator? OTC. Though, Fleet got so bad, he left Eugene.

I'm no fan of OTC, but come on... Hassan Mead has been solid in that group, just like Blankenship. Both of made numerous World/Olympic teams, global finals, and have run solid times while doing so (Mead 13:02, Blankenship 3:34).
Dog on Greer, Fleet, Farrell, Jock, etc. all you want, but Mead should be left out of the conversation completely.
I hope the VTech - OTC Elite young guys develop into beasts. Would love to see it

I think Fleet ran unattached. Unsure if he is still with Nike
fleet was in a 2019 nike singlet so he's still with them. Where has he been training since he left Eugene?
I think a lot of people are leaving McGorty off their 5k list. He seems to have been healthy all year and is coming off an NCAA title a year ago. I am a big Grant Fisher fan but he wasnt able to win Pac-12's in the 15 or the 5 so it's not looking good for him to make a US team this year

Fleet is with Nikki hiltz and that group in San Diego. Farrell is definitely still with Nike/otc. Was wearing the otc uniform and brand new Nike spikes. As for mead, that 13:02 was 5 years ago, though he ran 13:04 at Pre in 2016. I really cheer for him, but his last 2 years have been pretty mediocre.
@something else
I get that but at the level they are how you gonna travel that far for a rust buster type race?
And I mention Chris O hare to acknowledge that he is a true mid d guy and his shorter distance PRs don’t translate when he moves up. I know that’s not necessarily shocking just saying

Winners:
Kerr- with this new strength, might we see 3:32?
Lawi- is the 13:01 college guy back?
Fleet- definitely a step in the right direction
Freirichs- what a finish
Schweizer- see above
Schneider- will make the team
Praught- who saw this 3 years ago? Wow!
Coburn- props on pacing
Murphy- easy win in 800
Engels- great finish. Left it late.
Losers:
Farrell- wtf, man?
O'Hare- cmon, dude.
Willis- cracks starting to show
Murphy- destroyed in 1500. Time for some distance runs
Additions? Subtraction?
lol
Murphy a loser, time for distance runs? That's all he's been doing. And he doubled the 800/1500 off literally no speed work. You have no idea what he's been doing for training.
O'Hare wasn't running his event. Period.
I don't know about distance runs or speed work or whatever, but getting his doors blown off with a 3:45 is pretty bad. I'd say it's a valid point. Agree on Willis too.

+1. It's not right to dog on Mead yet because he has met success, and over a few year span. He did win USA 10000 in 2017, but apart from that he has been an "also-ran" in mostly all his races. Maybe he'll get back at it, maybe he's fried. Time will tell.
Thanks USATF for preventing running fans from watching any videos of this event.
The only two guys in the rowland group that have done anyhing are mead and Blankenship period, the rest have done nothing. Farrel was good in college but has been terrible these past few years and pros like him will not have there sponsors renewed.
Blankenship and Mead ran well despite being coached by Rowland, not because of him.
My understanding is that for many of new OTC guys, like the VA Tech studs, Oregon coach Ben Thomas is coaching them and Rowland holds a stop watch.
But Farrell still has the unique distinction of hokding the OSU school record for 5000 meters run during his redshirt year.
Can anyone name another program that recognises a performance as a school record when the athlete is redshirting?
