[I am]Guilty as charged - of lousy math! I mistakenly figured running time using 26 segements, adding an extra 48s 200m split to get 20:4825 x 200m splits = 5K 25 x 48s = 1200s = exactly 20 min. Thanks for correcting me. I am a bit confused, though, in that running time or splits weren't taken on a watch? If you were counting number of splits or laps in your head, it'd be easy to lose count. Was there something about walking back to a smart phone to get lapsed running time, and deducting for estimated time from finish to retrieve the phone?

Splitting the first 200 in 32 shows surprisingly inaccurate/imprudent pace judgement.
45 second "laps" would be truly impressive on a 400m track, so that reference would seem to be for 200m splits.
If your aim was 45-second 200m splits, why set your watch for 48 seconds beeps?
96s laps puts you at a 20:48 5K, so you would have been pacing for failure. Given you ran significantly faster, 48s alerts would have almost immediately been useless for checking and adjusting pace.
96 second laps come out to 6:24. That is like a 19:51, give or take a second.
