This autumn Kipchoge will try to run sub 2 hour marathon during INEOS 1:59 Challenge
Can somebody clarify the condition for the attempt to be record eligible?
Website for the attempt is below.
Location TBD, details we know below. Says they're aiming for late September/early October -- which happens to be exactly when Worlds are this year (September 27-Oct 6).
"The venue for INEOS 1:59 Challenge is currently being decided, with a number of options that offer a flat looped circuit being investigated for the event which is planned for late September or early October 2019.
"A major marketing campaign will publicise the run and live coverage will be broadcast across the world, both on traditional and digital channels. Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to attend.
"INEOS 1:59 Challenge is being supported by INEOS, one of the world’s largest manufacturing companies, which also sponsors the children’s running charities, GO Run For Fun and The Daily Mile."

Hopefully there will still be a world the children can safely run in thanks to all plastic and pollution that ineos produces.
Who’s heard of ineos before? What do they do?
With regard to the video, Kipchoge would not be rewriting history, he'd simply be writing history. Or to be even more accurate, someone else will be writing it about him. Further, while the sub-2 hour marathon would be an incredible achievement, it is not the "last milestone in athletics". The goal is impressive enough - it's doesn't need poorly written hyperbole to over-inflate it.
Personally, I'd rather see him continue to race record eligible marathons. If he does succeed in running an ineligible sub-2-hour marathon his result will continue to sit in that same grey zone as his current 2.00.25; an incredible feat, but not as enduring in our memory as the 2.01.39.
It will have the same legitimacy as a downhill A to B marathon.
He should run it in Crocs to silence any potential debate about whatever clown shoes Nike has him wear.
Article states that the event will take place in late September or early October. But isn't he racing Berlin??
So, Berlin? No go?

Ineos also recently took over title sponsorship of Team Sky in cycling.
'Nuf said. This is greenwashing at its worst.
Was your source on Berlin credible or some self-indulgent messageboard poster?

You ask all the tough ones don't you Rick.

Plastics and petrol. And fracking
So no return trip to Berlin then, I guess...

He'll go for sub 2hr at Berlin then back up with the INEOS challenge to try and improve on it, he shouldn't need more than a week or so recovery.
What happened to his statement about running Berlin?
A sub 2 record-eligible marathon would be more impressive and is achievable by Kipchoge is everything is perfect on race day should he run Berlin this fall.
He could easily make up those 25 seconds he missed in 2017 now that he is faster in the marathon.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
