This. Life happens. All these young, healthy and talented 25 minute 8k runners living on their parents money who think they’re better and faster than everyone else and that a BQ is so easy that a fatty could do it will learn one day, they will - and sooner than they think. Like them, I could run circles around almost all people as a young, healthy youth and then I developed an autoimmune disease at age 23 (which can happen to any person at any time) and ever since then, running has been a very different challenge than it was back at college age which wasn’t all that long ago, I am 31 and can BQ by
Well, I know a lot of women who train much more than 35 miles per week, and have been doing so for years, that couldn't run a marathon in under 4:30. Your imaginary girlfriend (let's face it, this is LetsRun.com) is more talented than most women if she can run so little and qualify.[/quote]
I don't know those women but I know plenty like them and let me tell you, they are never uncomfortable during training. As soon as the pace creeps up during a workout and they become uncomfortable they back off. You'll never get anywhere like that unless you're running big mileage. I don't believe there are non responders, I've seen far too many people go from putting in a decent amount of miles but not really training seriously and then after some months of good training and actually performing good workouts chopping off very big chunks from their prs. With the marathon it's different as anyone can have a bad day but you can't run fast if you don't train fast some of the time.
I was once Bq young and fit, lovely times, but I had an accident unfortunately. I was constantly training, waking up at 5 am to go running. Always been a sport lover to be honest. Just when I was about to participate in this elite competition, I strained my ankle. Now I have one of these https://mobilitydeck.com/walkers-for-seniors I'm not even a senior yet... So who cares about these standards?! Enjoy the fact y'all can still run... I wish I could be that fit again. It kills me not being able to participate in marathons anymore... Be grateful for what you have.
