The methodology of this report sucks. They claim Strava data “proves” that middle aged runners are faster because they average lower times than Strava users in their 20s.

Nice.
Also, people are faster than greyhounds. My proof is that I run faster than my greyhound (he is 14 years old and missing a leg, but that's beside the point). Yeah science!
Most slow masters joggers packed it in a long time ago. They're home drinking beer and eating Cheetos. And everyone including the 5 to 6 hours marathoning young kids are wearing VF4%.
This is direct data from Chicago, New York and Marine:
So there is a difference between actual finishing times, and Strava times.
1) People could be lieing about their age more on Strava than during race registration.
2) If someone in his 40s finds out about Strava or knows about it, he is more likely a seasoned athlete. In the 20s, people are used to computers and social networks and it's easier to get a Strava acc even if they are more untrained/inexperienced as runners.
3) People in their 40s only upload marathons where they did well, whereas people in the 20s don't care about bad performances as long as they finished.
To the previous argument of Vaporfly being more accessible to the 40-49 year age group - yes, income is much higher for people in their 40s vs 20s, but that would also be reflected in ACTUAL finishing times, and not just on Strava.
