Hi, I'm a high school junior (girl) and I'm feeling really frustrated right now. Spring track season started a few weeks ago and I've raced twice with 6:16 and 6:20 in the 1600. The first 1600 I don't know my exact splits, but I went out too hard and died. The second one I felt tired right from the start and my first lap was already slower than what I wanted, and it only got worse from there. I was aiming for sub 6 both times because my PR from indoor was 5:58 and I feel like I'm still in good shape, but clearly I was way off.
I run two workouts a week with one "long" run (only actually long like half of the time) and easy the rest of the time for around 35mpw. I ran an 2x 4x4 workout a week before the 6:20 with 200 jog rest and four min rest between sets and went 1:26, 1:28, 1:31, 1:29 / 1:27, 1:31, 1:32, 1:30 . It felt like a hard race effort, especially the second set but still I feel like it shows that I should be racing faster but I don't really know.
PRs (all from indoor)
800 PR 2:43 relay split
1600 PR 5:58
3200 PR 13:17
I've run a 75ish 400 for fun a while ago if that helps
In cross country I dropped my 5k from a 23:30 to a 21:53 and consistently ran 22:1x, and my track times last spring were 2:4x high/6:08/13:44 so I had some pretty big PRs.
Why are my race times so much slower now than they were just a few months ago when I feel like I'm in the same/better shape / why am I not improving? If something is wrong with my training, what can I fix & based on this, what are realistic goals for me by the end of the season? I would love to run 2:40 and 5:50, and I don't really know what a good 3200 time is. Thank you!
