On Tuesday morning's Today show, there was a piece on the Boston Marathon with a few quick stories. One was about Joan Benoit Samuelson's finish within 40 minutes of her time in 1979. However, Al Roker pronounced her name "Benwah." Of course, this isn't Al's fault, as I assume whoever contributed the story got the pronunciation wrong. Really? Is it that hard to Google?
They also reported that the men's finish was the closest since like 1988 and was only by TWO seconds, where in the video that was on the screen anyone could tell it was much closer than that.
The second mistake isn't that bad and doesn't really matter but why can't you get the pronunciation of a legend's name correct?
Segment starts around 13:40. Mispronunciation is at 14:12. (NBC made me watch 7 commercials before it would show me that segment so I'm going to temporarily stop complaining about LetsRun sometimes using up to 75% of my screen space for ads.)
