Bummer. He just can't get on track. Got to think a change of scenery might be for the best.
I know, right? If only he would develop rippling deltoids, biceps and triceps, his plantar issues would become a distant memory. And he would also have a chance of out-elbowing the wicked-fast and top-heavy Kenyans on his way to victory.
Chris Derrick has been a complete disappointment as a professional. His teammate Andrew Bumbalough, he can't still have a Nike contract? If he does I hope it's just for product! Now Matthew Centrowitz is part of that no pressure to perform BTC too. Just look at Cento's Instagram posts, they are unbelievably sophomoric and immature. Not something you'd expect from a professional runner Olympic GOLD medalist but from some college frat boy. You could go on and on and on with Jerry Schumacher's Bowerman Track Club Elite. But we like Jerry Schumacher though and loathe Alberto Salazar how ironic. Oh, that's right Salazar is STILL under investigation. How's that going David Epstein, Kara Goucher and Steve Magness?

I wonder how much Derrick was running. For those curious, Scott Faubs posts all of his runs and workouts on Strava. Unless he’s holding something back from us, he barely topped 110 miles a week and hardly set foot on a track. He did go up to 24 miles on his longest run. The training really does look unspectacular...he’s basically doing similar workouts to what I did when I ran 2:22 - just faster. Have to imagine Jerry is pushing Derrick wayyyyy harder and getting worse results.
Is that running faster pretty much just the difference between 2:22 and 2:09? Go back the 70s/80s and you have a ton of people with pretty basic plans of things like run 100-120 mpw, do a hard 10 mile run/race, and then do some type of track/fartlek/hills session. The tough part is after you have this good race is not to go, how good will I be if I run 140mpw and add in a couple more hard workouts.

that's a lot of shade in one mid-length post
what do you do on your free time? kick puppies?
Another BTC athlete injured. It's incredible how lax Schumacher/BTC are about injuries. Schumacher seems to have a "tough it out" attitude toward pain/injuries, leaving it up to the individual athlete to seek remedies/treatment. But professional runners are more to apt push themselves too far and hard. It's one of their coach's responsibilities to keep them from injuring themselves, but clearly Schumacher doesn't feel that way. Remember, after months of pain, Infeld, on her own, went to get an MRI at an Olympic Training Center to find out what was wrong. She had been running on a torn labrum in her hip -- a major injury and usually requires surgery. This goes back to Solinsky's time when he kept running on an injured hamstring until it finally tore off the bone and ended his running career. Schumacher's comment at the time was he "leaves mileage up to the athlete." Don't forget Jager and Centro have been on the shelf this winter

Maybe USATF ought to consider an alternate oly trials course (I.e. less difficult) to allow athletes a reasonable chance to achieve the standard at the trials.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! But USATF just isn't bright enough to go through with this.
Under the circumstances the Trials should be on that F1 track in Italy!
But seriously, find a flat loop course somewhere in the US where the temperature is 50*-60* in February.
Remember the April 1 home page with the Breaking 2:10 Project for American men?
Yeah, get some money and a pace car and get these 2:11-2:15 guys under 2:10.

Houston was perfect, but they decided to go to VERY hot L.A. Almost killed Shalane and it did have an impact on the results.

Team from Houston trials at 2012 Olympics: 3 DNFs, 4th men's race, 10th and 11th women's race
Team from LA trials at 2016 Olympics: 3 women in top 10, men's 3rd, 6th, and 33rd
But Houston was perfect.
Didn't Rupp and Hasay also had PI problems w/n the last year? I wonder if it's the shoes. I also developed a problem the in the arch area after having a great training in Zoom Fly Flyknit back in Feb. Not PI but I am thinking it may had to do with the shoe being inflexible.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
