For the ultra folks out there, GDR took place this weekend but it was not without controversy.
This race is somewhat of a big deal because the top 2 male and women fnishers gain auto entry into western states 100.
Some questionable flagging led to literally the entire front pack (the first 10-15 runners) going off course. Only a few runners took the proper route. The course split off in two ways which were both flagged, which caused the top 10 runners at that point to all go off course (see flyby data)

As you can see from the data, the top men (except the eventual winner Morgan Elliot) went off course, as well as the top women.
The 2nd place male finisher made the wrong turn and the top 3 female finishers made the wrong turn as well.
In terms of the impact, the wrong route added 0.5 miles, however, it subtracted some elevation gain (est. 200-400ft).
The RD is hitting everyone who took the wrong way with a 60 minute time penalty. Do you think this is fair?
