I actually agree with you. It would be a huge mistake to run a hilly marathon again based on this type of surgery. The trials will be the wrong course for anyone with this injury.

You guys haven't been paying attention. Galen has made his last U.S. team. There are a handful of U.S. guys who could run under 2:10 this year.
Have they run under 2:10? No, they haven't. Rupp has won a major a Oly Bronze and run 2:06. I'd put my money there.
Back in 08 it looked like Meb was on his way out with a serious injury at a similar age. All he did after that was win New York, Boston, and make two more Olympic teams, finishing 4th once. Clearly, he should have just hung em up in 08.

You label me a troll due to your ignorance. I know much more about this than you do. Galen is not ever going to be the same runner that he was prior to the injury. Galen’s career as you knew it, representing the U.S., is over.
Why do you care so much?

At his age and with this setback, Galen can no longer compete with the top Americans, many of them foreign born. A very nice career you had though Galen.
I'll venture to say he'll make the team in 2020, and 2024. He'll be Meb status in 2024, but I'd still put my money on him 5 years from now.
He should blow off the Olympics and go FTW at London marathon in 2020

He could PW by 5 minutes in the ‘thon and still be our best guy
What does PW mean?

I'm going to archive this one and repost when Rupp wins the trials or does something significant.
You seem to think he hasn't been doing aerobic work this entire time. If anything, his legs will be extra springy and rested and he'll get a longer career out of this respite. He has EVERY possible advantage at his disposal with NIke and his income. He's the best american distance runner of all time, so he deserves a bit of respect here.
cool.

Which is why the statement was incorrect.

Please identify the guys (not named Galen Rupp) that could run under 2:10 this year. And don't say Ritz - he hasn't ran even a 3 hour marathon in years.

Add 4 minutes to Rupp's time, since he's been wearing shoes with the carbon plate for all his marathons (hint, PF).
And ya'll can shut the hell up about the foam being All That in the 4%, because without the plate (PF) you can't even stand in the clown shoes.
It is the foam lol. If it was the plate, you'd get the same results from the Zoom Fly Flyknit and HOKA Carbon Rocket, but you don't.
Fauble will get close (but not get it) at Boston. Thinking 2:10:35 with good weather and tailwind (you heard it here first)

Then read what I said, because you're agreeing with me.
The only reason you can take even one step in Cheatfly shoes is because the plate is there to lend stability. That said, that's the part that has given all those OTC folks raging PF. And even with that plate, I have NEVER seen a shoe cause such massive pronation. Even Kipchoge looks like he's running on his ankles during their 1K intervals. Go ahead and keep wearing this shoe, everyone. Enjoy it while you can.
Chris Derrick should break 2:10 in London this month, assuming he doesn't do something stupid like go out in 63. There is no excuse for a 27:30 10K / 61 half guy for not breaking 2:10 on a flat course with even pacing. If he runs another 2:12 he might as well quit and use that Stanford degree to get a real job.

Derrick isn’t a 27:30/61 half guy anymore.
Still waiting for someone to name any American not named Galen Rupp that has run under 2:10 recently. Still waiting...

Based on Strava we’ve got at least 5 contenders.

If this were the case, I'd be pleasantly surprised. Also, the chances of "good weather and tailwind" are about 0.001%. He ran 2:12:28 in PERFECT weather at NYC (granted, a tough course). I'll say 2:13:30 at Boston.
