The NB RC5000 was by far the best flat I've ever worn. Mine are long gone and I'm looking for the next best thing, without spending serious cash.
So what do people think? 3.2 ounce shoe for ~$100. Can it be done again?

The RC150 was WAAAAAYYYY better.
wave ekiden
NB Hanzo
ReebokFloatride RunFast Pro? 110g or so for a size 9.0, plus good enough for up to HM (not for everyone of course).
I was able to find a pair in ebay, so you try looking at that. The reebok pro is likely the best replacement but is expensive, so your best bet is the streak lt which is more in the 5 ounce range but is faster IMO than the only other hyper lightweight shoes (Asics piranha & mizuno wave universe)
mizuno wave sonic?
Saucony Endorphin Racer
Aren't you a swoosh guy? Didn't you say the VF was faster than flats?

Yes
Nothing quite like it yet, but hopefully that NB PRJ5280 comes out to the public soon enough. It looks better than the RC500 (also my fav flat)

Hot.

no, not a swoosh guy, nor is the Tub affiliated with the swoosh in any official way. the VF is faster than flats for certain races/courses/distances, but not for everything. it has limitations.
the NB hanzo is twice the weight of the rc5000s. the streak LTs I already have and are what I'm using now, but will need to be replaced as well soon.
the reebok shoes are too expensive.
the PRJ5280s look interesting, obviously meant for mid-distance and probably up to 5k.
the saucony endorphin racers aren't really available anywhere, so that's not helpful anymore, although it looks like the type of shoe I am looking for.
Tartherzeal 6 may be good for you
Altra Vanish (and upcoming Vanish XC)
I personally wasn’t a huge fan, but tons o folks love them.
update...just wondering if anybody has seen any deals on a 3-5oz flat in size 10 or 10.5
I made this thread in march and my streak LT3s are toast now.
Has anyone tried the 5280’s? How would they hold up in a track or road 10k?

Yes - and they're quite awesome. They'll make it over a track 10K, definitely, and a road 10K if you're an efficient (midfoot) runner. Since you're talking about track racing, I'm assuming you are, and they should be fine. All that said, the NB RC5000 was a more capable flat (I used to do 15 mile workouts in those!) and I do miss it!
