A very beta trait is thinking that people are alpha just because they make a lot of money.

I'll agree with this.

Or, maybe, former NFL quarterback? In particular, former Northern California NFL franchise quarterback.
For what it's worth, the Navy SEALs, private equity traders, and cardiac and trauma surgeons I know are adequately socially adept to never refer to themselves, or anyone else, as "alpha," "beta," or any other silly labels.

All these guys are scrawny manboys. You could walk up to them, tell them you will beat them up and they will offer up their wife or girlfriend and car keys to avoid confrontation. And they'll still give you money for dinner as you drive away in their car to have a good night with their girlfriend or wife.
That's not alpha at all.
Says the distance runner LOL. I work in one of those fields. You wouldn't do a single thing to me. Clown
What a joke.
i love it when spreadsheet monkeys mistake the size of their bonus with their coolness, athleticism, appeal to women, intelligence, social skills, likeability, current hairline location, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Don't get all internet tough guy on us, you're just a professional parasite. Real men do productive work.
Most of the jobs suggested are not high-status or high-power, and therefore not alpha. Smokejumpers and fighter pilots have super cool "manly" jobs, but they are not high-ranking.
High income doesn't necessarily make you alpha, but there's a very strong correlation. Most powerful people are wealthy. Physical strength, on the other hand, is admirable, but mostly symbolic. I'm struggling to think of a case where you can use your own physical strength to become a powerful figure in society.
Real alphs are executives, high-ranking government officials, and I'm not sure what else.
Astronaut.
Every single one of them is unbelievably amazing in some way. Like the best at everything they have ever done. The kind of heroes that Heinlein used to write about are but pale imitations of the real thing. Mike Smith was tried to safely land what was left of the Challenger when it went down, and if *anyone* could have actually done it, he could.
Even then, there needs to be a new category here for someone who has actually walked on the moon. Because there has only been 12 of them in all of human history. That's pretty badass.
As much as I hate to say it... political leaders or heads of state.
