Kids already know who the rich and poor kids are at school. They also know who the smart and dumb ones are too.

The left is going insane, what used to be considered far left is now moderate.
I sort of get it, being one of the poor kids in school (30 years ago now). Presumably this school will have adopted uniforms as well, which is another way of trying to keep what your parents have out of high school.
It takes a special kid to realize that what someone's parents do or have does not define who you are and who you could be. Took me a while to get that, but I did eventually get it.
This reminds me of the Comedians in Cars getting coffee with John Stewart and his story about taking his prom date in New Jersey in a 1974 Brown Gremlin with a bag of lime in the back that a cat used as a litter box. She went home with another dude. I am pretty sure he described the car as an effective means of birth control.
Is the school trying to imply that people who can't afford a limo or fancy car should feel embarrassed?
This one is actually a fantastic idea if you anything about proms. First is the obvious. They drive drunk and die on prom night.
This avoids that with the bus. Second is that they spend enormous amounts of either their or their parents' money on the fancy cars and limos. Many of them drop out of sports to earn enough money. Our track team lost two or three of its best male athletes solely to work to earn enough to pay for limos, etc. for the prom, and we lost the league title as a result. That athlete surely lost any college scholarship offers as a result, because he was a getting points in four different events, including field. This is not about leveling playing fields. It is about priorities and saving lives.
Will they let you have sex in the back of the bus after the prom?
Now they all have go get hotel rooms. (Except the poor kids)
I went to my prom in NJ with 6 other people packed into my buddy’s 10 year old car. We didn’t take a limo cause we didn’t feel like wastig money on it and didn’t feel like dealing with some driver. We didn’t drink cause they had breathalyzers at the front doors and half a dozen cops. A lot of people did the same thing as us, and we weren’t considered poor.
Meanwhile, one of the limos carrying a flock of the “rich kids” broke down and they showed up an hour late. All of the kids who convinced their parents to rent them sports cars got to show off for a night. Who cares?
I hd more fun in the car on the way to/from prom than I did at the actual event. Sitting on an old schoolbus in tuxedos and dresses? I think even the poor kids would rather drive.
Couldn't agree more. Prom is the most useless and idiotic thing that happens at high schools. It reinforces economic disparities among students. The rich kids buy expensive outfits, go out to fancy restaurants before and have limos drive them around (or get to drive their parents' fancy cars). The rest of the kids rent a cheap tux/dress, get dropped off by their parents or drive a clunker and go to TGI Fridays before. And then there is the completely unnecessary social pressure to get a date and have the "best night of our lives!!!" Teens are already terribly stressed out about the pressures of dating. Now, it becomes basically a school sponsored requirement to find a date. Kids who aren't dating anyone either pick someone who is enough of a friend and have a very awkward night out or skip the prom and feel ashamed that they couldn't get a date.
Get rid of those gas-guzzlers now in advance of GND. AOC will host your after-prom festivities at her undisclosed crash pad location.
Funny how things have progressed as the world continues to turn topsy turvy. My HS prom was held in the school gym, decorated the day before the event. The prom was over by 11 pm, I think, maybe even a bit earlier. We had parents as chaperones and any drinking that went on was quite limited, if at all. This was in a school with over 3000 students in grades 10-12. When you compare that to today where the proms are held at country clubs or other expensive venues and girls need a day to prepare with stops at the hair dresser and nail salon, and the event ends at 5 am, you have to wonder (at least I wonder at the value of these made up events).
Every year, the prom causes issues with track meets as they tend to occur the same weekend as the state meet or sectional meet and deciding which is more important seems to be a major crisis for those athletes wanting to participate in both events.
Add to that the expense of such an event for the participants and what are we teaching and learning from all of this? Do we really need to place such a high value on a "prom" that is pretty insignificant in terms of life's important events?

I thought that is what the public restroom at the bus station was for.

That's such a horrible crime.

I totally agree. I only went to one prom in high school, didn't spend ANY extra money to do so, and drove my parents old 1955 ford. I had no clue about girls, but she liked me so we drove around doing nothing until 5 am in the morning. I lost interest in her after that, and fortunately. Several decades later she's a blimp. While driving around we saw many prom guy idiots, including those tossing newspaper pages out their car windows on a rainy night, trying to get them to stick to car windows driving behind them. Watch out for idiots!
Recently, my friend's daughter spent $500 for her 10th grade daughter to go to the prom.
How stupid is that.
I was a rich kid and it never helped me get a prom date. It only helped me once I got into my late 20s and women realized they didn’t want to be poor
Spot on
Kind of agree. I missed prom because it was the same day as my state meet. Other kids on my team blew off state to go to the prom. I got a full ride to a D1, they didn't get squat. The amount of tail I got in college far outweighed any lame missed experiences with prom. So in summary, F-- proms.

Yeah it really sucks that prom for some schools it the day before state meets. I was lucky enough to have prom the weekend of a smaller scale meet like sectionals but I know guys who had to skip it to prepare for Meet of Champions.
Sometimes you just gotta be a notmal high school student, though. I wouldn’t blame anybody who skipped prom for track, but you have to remember there’s a life outside running.

Yeah, the poor ones are the ones who go to the school that takes a school bus to prom. lol

Once heard someone say this about a prom. If on your deathbed you look back on your life and your prom was among the top 10 moments of your life, your life SUCKED. and have to agree promos are so overrated
