Here is our men's preview:
I hear Matt Llano is racing?
Ran high 2:12 blowing up a bit at CIM, solo for almost the whole race.
Over or under 2:12:00 in Tokyo?
Top American (probably, who else is going)?
There is an a super athlete who has been underperforming to this point. Gedion Kipketer is a 2:02 potential and I think this is his year.
Prediction:
1. Gedion Kipketer 2:04:33
2. Osako 2:04:58
3. Dickson Chumba 2:06:04

What makes you think Kipketer is a 2:02 talent? He ran only 2:06:15 in Amsterdam last year and has been mostly acting as a pacer for the past few years. Has he been battling injuries or something?
True, Kipketer to this end has been known more as a pacer but that is about to change. He has been training hard the last few months under the mentor-ship of Eliud Kipchoge to shoot for at least a 2:03 marathon. He may not do that in Tokyo but will be very competitive.

2:11 or faster. Calling it right now
Are there any notable Americans running Tokyo?
I'm merging this thread with the other Tokyo thread. I loved Brett Larner's pre-race piece.

There is that one guy who ran 2:45 in New York last fall and started a post asking the best spots in Tokyo to urinate before the race.
Chumba Wamba!

I hope Bedan Karoki achieves his potential.

It seems like Suguru Osako will go out with the leaders. If they start at the planned 61:45 halfway split, wouldn't it be too much of an asking for him? Either he has a huge breakthrough or an epic blow-up.
It would be more sensible to open in 63:15 with Yuki Sato's group and run a big negative split if he's in such a good shape.

Honestly dude if I were in his shoes and 61:45/63:15 are his only pacing options, I would target 62:40 and see how many of the lead pack I pass as they slow or peel off to the curb. Seems like the best way to get a new AR.
Looks like rain is going to be a factor. Hopefully it won't be so bad, particularly for the Japanese runners who need to run a time
Hopefully this will work.
