Please don’t come to my restaurant. Splitting checks in 2019 is idiotic. You can literally send someone money in minutes via a number of different sources.
Go through a drive thru.

You need to tell us what restaurant is “yours” if you want him to stay away, smart guy. Please do tell us so that I can avoid it as well. I don’t even plan on splitting my check. I’d just rather not patronize an establishment where the servers think they’re above doing their jobs.
Don't worry, I won't be dining at your crap restaurant that can't accommodate the needs of it's customers. Next time when I come with my 10 friends, we'll all request our own table.

I once had a burger and fries and we split the bill. I ended up paying $50. Why is that ok? Lol. I always pay it but I know who not to go out with anymore. I honestly have been to more restaurants that itemize than evenly split unless it’s a very large group. Also what drive thru do you know that itemizes each persons order? Stoopid

It may be fine to get separate checks if you are a college kid on limited money. Otherwise, either even split or one person pays the full bill.

I feel like almost everyone here is trolling. I’ve lived everywhere from small college towns to NYC on everything from a student’s budget to an attending physician’s salary. Asking for separate checks always and everywhere means that each person gets a bill for the items they ordered.
It wouldn’t bother me to split a check down the middle if local custom dictated, but I’ve just never seen it done that way.
Either that or die hard socialists. lived on east coast and west coast and have rarely seen people suggest splitting the check. I’m going to pay for what I ordered, not what someone else ordered.
For all the people on let's run who claim to make 250k a year, this thread is pretty telling that it's more like 2.5k a year average.
No one with a decent job past age 25 should ever suggest itemizing the bill unless there is a HUGE disparity in what you ordered and what they did. If you are successful you:
1) Offer to foot the bill (generally if out to dinner with someone junior to you, or you asked them and they are doing you a favor).
2) Split check by default while offering to pay the tip if you ordered more than your friend(s)
3) Split check evenly. This is social signaling that shows your time is more valuable than a couple bucks.
quite normal in many cities/countries, specially when you are with a group of people you hang out with a lot. That being said, I don't normally drink, so if there is only one round of beer, I will let it pass by. But if it is a party of some sort and some guys are doing shots and bottles of wines/liquor are being consumed, I don't hesitate to mention that I am sharing only the food part.
Yeah im in college right now and id be pissed as hell if someone did this because I want my 3 dollars but once I have a real job who tf cares. If your a grown person and are gonna freak out over how many people at two taquitos and who got three and how to split it it just makes you seem like a broke azz.

since you are complaining about it, you must fail at least one of these criteria.
LOL b/c it's true.
Lol loser
You obviously don't work for or own a restaurant because you don't want money. Don't understand how business works. Good luck with that.

Da fuq this guy saying?
So I didn't quote the loser's post and it's difficult for a moran like you to follow. Loser said "don't come to MY restaurant if you're going to split bills go to a drive thru".
Can you follow this or should I get some TTYL help for ya?
He’s a friggin engineer who makes plenty more than an old track coach. Always good to hear from such a pompous douche though. Cheers
Kinda bogus, but you do see it.
My pal Kenny, love him, but the mofo always orders big, extra side dishes, knocks down a ton of drinks.

Every one I know splits the check evenly and automatically bumps a few bucks if they ordered a big ticket item or throws it a bit less if thy ate small. We all make it a point to carry cash when we dine .
I'm not shy .
When someone I don't usually dine with uses the Hey lets get the cheese plate and bread service etc. for the table ploy I turn to the waiter and say you don't mind cutting an individual check for that do you?
Only cheapskates add up individually.
Plus I've noticed in a big group if you get everyone to work out their own bill the total always comes up short.
If you can't spring for an extra drink for someone go out on your own
This is how I fell out with friends at one of their birthdays. There were 8 of us at the meal. The bill was just over 280 so that would be $35 each. We agreed to chip in for the birthday guy so he didn't have to pay, so 7 of us covered the bill, which literally meant $40 each.
I didn't have a job at the time and the only money I had was $30 which my mom gave me(and a few vouchers for Starbucks where I was hoping we could go afterwards, well that never happened). The meal ended in a disaster and I never saw any of my friends again.
I argued that I didn't have enough and that my bill was only $25. I only had grilled Indian spiced chicken, 2 portions of fries, carrot cake and a espresso macchiato(amazing value and I persuaded everyone to come here). All the others had starters and had beers and wine too. I just had a tiny sip of the bottle of red wine. I told them that I'm a runner and I was planning to get up early in the morning for a long hard interval session. I'm the only runner in the group. They thought I was crazy but I'm just healthy and don't want to poison myself with alcohol and I have to think about my marathon career. There was a 15 minute argument where I was trying to make my point, and going through what everyone else was eating/drinking. I offered to share my vouchers with some of them if they went to Starbucks with me afterwards. I had enough of them and just got up and left without paying anything. I then ran as fast as I could so they wouldn't get me to pay. People can be nasty when it comes to money. You think you know who your friends are.
