money is the vehicle that allows one to minimize want. The more one has, the less want, and theoretically at least, the less important it becomes.
So, for some, it may mean very little. And if it does, it's because they chose to make it so.
But those without it, it probably epitomizes the belief that attainment will bring them happiness. Perhaps it may, but not necessarily.
In a very real sense these days, money is a measure of self-worth, social status, and success. From my experience, while this is most definitely an everpresent phenomenon, it is a fallacy.
