I would give a slight edge to this 320 meter track but agree that 300M and 200M banked tracks are equivalent. It seems that large distance races do better with larger tracks because the runners believe they lose less distance with fewer turns.

Why would he exhibit fake confidence? He seems to believe it.
The 800 guy split 1:48 but has a 1:52 PR. The 1600 guy runs away from the best milers in the NCAA running 3:54 but has a 4:01 mile PR. This could be just like last year for them except they could actually win if they pull this off again. Many teams will not be at full strength at nationals. I predict they get 4th at nationals running 9:32.

Illinois posted the video. They didn't create it for you. The pacing was smart. Interesting that it only really helped Wisconsin, not Notre Dame.
???
Helped Wisconsin get outkicked, that’s for sure.
Voelz ran 150 point something last year at Depauw and was All American in D2 (or D3? Sorry, I don’t know.). He’s an Indiana HS champ and transferred to ND. I think Nuguse has only run a mile once in competition indoors this year. He won in a PR. He’s got a good kick, which always helps in DMR. The race was also at ND. ND does not race a lot indoors and rarely goes to the big meets where you can knock a bunch off your PR. Hey - just getting through a South Bend winter is an accomplishment. They are both young runners. They are not yet as accomplished as the Wisconsin runners.. It was a great effort and they have good futures in both running and academics. I wish them all the best.

ND will only be at NCAAs in one event...the DMR. Wisconsin will finish most likely in the top 3 teams.
If ND doesn't win the DMR, they are choke artists.
Being ranked .14 ahead over 2.5 miles isn’t a lock to win. If they had like a 2 second gap, I’d agree. But I’d pretty much their odds as the same as Wisco’s.
ND guys will all be fresh. McDonald will probably go for 5k Q at big ten and Hoare is already qualified in mile and 3k so it will be a tough call. They may use Hacker and somebody else at nationals.

I would be more excited about this result if it were on a proper indoor tracl. Oh well, still a couple of great times.
There is no conversion between banked 200m and oversized flat because they are equivalent for times. People have struggled with this concept ever since 300m tracks have become part of the norm.
I am simply opposed to indoor track on tracks longer than 200m. Takes away some of the fun. 200m indoor tracks almost feel like a theme park ride and that adds to the experience.
In addition, the strategy for the DMR is different on an indoor track because an oversized track has longer straightaways, which allows more space for acceleration and passing and less need for strategy. Hence, faster times.

ND pretty much has them all on strength and tempo mileage, they haven't done a lot of intervals.
Runtothelight, I enjoyed your insight thanks.
But how many times do we hear people say they've barely done speedwork? We used to hear it ALL THE TIME.
The reality is you often don't get faster with speedwork.
remember yared won usatf u20 last year in 3:49.xx. dude is gonna be an absolute beast if he qualifies for ncaa’s outdoor in the 1500. 3:54 mile split even on a 320m is LEGIT. bext american is stance star? possible future AR holder? i think so. let’s get it yared!

next american distance star***
No asterisks needed brother.
I was at the meet. Yared's the real deal.
I think I heard the split as 3:54.44. Unreal that this kid didn't qualify for Nats in the mile. He'd probably win it!
Don’t get carried away. He didn’t even qualify. Everything came to together perfectly at this meet. There was no travel involved and the race was run single file. He is capable of 3:56 but Hoare has already run 3:54. He ran great at nationals last year in the DMR also so maybe that is his niche.
He clearly prefers chasing others - his two races this season have shown that. I don't know that I'm call him THE favorite if he was running the mile at NCAAs because tactics take time. I do think he is going to be a star, though. 3:54 split as a sophomore is not common. My main concern with their DMR chances would be the other legs keeping him in the race - seems like a couple had the race of their lives in this one.
I wouldn’t say Jacobs or Voelz had the race of their lives. Dylan’s a footlocker champ who’s only going to improve as the season goes on. Voelz has raw talent and is getting real training for probably the first time in his life
Agree to disagree. They both ran notably faster in those events than ever before, and being a Foot Locker champ doesn't necessarily correlate to running a good 1200m as a college freshman.
You are correct. The facts are that they both ran the fastest ever by a significant margin. Be definition, they had the race of their lives. I predict ND to finish 5th at nationals.
Real training might be a stretch. He ran for a good program and finished second in the country last year despite only running outdoor.

sure, but you can't call a FL champ a nobody, like a poster above was.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
