i'm not an expert on the racewalk, but she has endurance and a high turnover rate which would serve her well. plus it would be much less likely for her to get injured.

Biggest thing will be if she can land with a straight knee on contact and hold it until is passes under her body. Usually distance runners have issues with this rule. Sprinters or the more athletic distance runners can transition well. Where she falls, anyone's guess unless she tries.
Racewalking is dumb. Nobody sponsors it because nobody watches or likes it. She is done anyway. She will attend her ivy for a year and then head back west never to be heard from.
A better question is, how could Alberto Salazar could've done in race walking in his prime?

And it looks stupid. I would be embarrassed if anyone saw me training.
If it wasn't for the straight rear-leg thing, she probably would have many records already:

I have never seen a runner that fast with so little air time.

it does take mental toughness and strength to racewalk, so it is a good decision you are making not to try it.
why would she go home after a year? even if she never runs a step, she can stay until she finishes - no scholarship - running just gets you past admissions easier
my guess is she falls at the Armory

It's just as punishing as any other endurance event, but it's not the same as watching world class distance running.
She won’t be able to perform academically. Her parent’s money and her running got her admitted.

NOT true... Ivy leagues are now 100% need (or lack thereof) blind. Furthermore, runners don’t get as much as an admission boost since they’re already smart. And she’ll probably find the rigors of college nonexistent if she majors in something like English or creative writing.
My neighbor’s 2 sons are at Harvard with their 28 ACTs. The dad graduated from there and now makes a yearly $25k donation. Amazing that 2 white males were admitted with those scores in a need blind system. And you think the Stanford football team all had 33 ACTs? What score do you think Dartmouth will require for Tuohy if she wants to attend? Do you think if she scores 27 she will be denied?

Who does her form remind you more of? Alberto Salazar or Garrett Heath?

I agree... Maybe it's "normal" in other cultures but it just looks dumb here.
What's funny is it could be an easy ticket to the Olympics for a sub-elite distance runner but no one wants to do it because it's honestly embarrassing.
It's important to understand the college admission system
Need blind means that your application will be judged without considering your need for financial aid - at schools that are not need blind, they can prefer wealthy applicants after they run through the school's financial aid budget.
All of the top schools give preference to athletes, talented artists, legacies (children of alumni), and children of wealthy donors (we're usually talking about $25million to put up a building, not just regular annual donations). The system has been working like this for at least 50 years, finding your way to game the system is the American way - go for it!
in Claudia's case, she was the number 1 track/cross country recruit in her class. With 1200 SATs and a 3.0 gpa that would be good enough for her to be admitted anywhere (without her parents making a commitment to sponsor a building LOL). More than likely her academics are much stronger than this. She has an interest in and talent for writing and she's a competent public speaker. She will do just fine at Dartmouth.

Even within the track & field community racewalking gets little respect. I used to attend the Millrose Games every year when they were still held at Madison Square Garden, and whenever the 1-mile racewalk was happening the sprinters and field events guys in the infield would gather in groups to point and snicker at and generally deride the walkers. With much mirth.
Judging by the USATF championship mile it helps to be tall.

A year ago, you would have predicted that she would be a standout runner there too. Now she will at least be a great student. Next year when she is at Chico state, you will say how successful she stiil can be.

Well, it's an odd event. There are no restrictions in other T&F sports. It's who can jump the highest, throw a piece of metal the farthest or run from point A to point B the fastest. Every T&F event makes sense to me. Certainly cavemen had competitions to see who could throw a spear the farthest.
On the other hand, race walking makes no sense at all. Humans either walk or they run. Why have a race that that akwardly tries to combine the two?
