Continued thanks for your updates and support of Kemoy and his family!
I have been a patient there through multiple very serious surgeries, and would expect nothing less than Kemoy to be receiving the best medical care possible.
I am praying for the restoration of his health, and answers to what the cause of this was. I hate this so much for him.
Read up on Paul Wylie, the 1992 silver medalist in figure skating. Very similar circumstances. Suffered sudden cardiac arrest while running. A friend performed CPR; EMS got his heart started with injection (shock did not work); he was placed in induced coma for two days; alive and doing well with an ICD.

Jonathan Gault has some good news to report:
Additionally, it is believed that Ray Flynn will be issuing a statement in the morning.
It's also worth noting that a GoFund me has been set up to help pay for stuff.

Kemoy Campbell Support Fund
On Saturday, February 9th, Jamaican Olympian and National Record Holder Kemoy Campbell collapsed during the Men’s 3000m at the NYRR Millrose Games.
As of this morning, Kemoy is in critical but stable condition in the ICU at New York Presbyterian/ Columbia University Hospital.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support. Kemoy is awake and talking. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Kemoy will continue to be monitored and recover at the hospital for the foreseeable time. In order for Kemoy to continue receiving the best care and to offset mounting medical costs, we are asking for donations to help support him and his family during this challenging time. Any donation made to help Kemoy on his road to recovery is greatly appreciated.
Kemoy and his family are very grateful for the overwhelming support and outreach.
The Campbell family would also like to express their gratitude for the team of doctors at New York Presbyterian/ Columbia University Hospital and the quick response of The Armory's on-site medical professionals and doctors who assisted Kemoy and for the outpouring of support from the track and field community.

Thanks for the update. Gold news for sure.
Finally good news out of this terrifying incident. Take it easy Kemoy (Did we ever find out how this Jamaican distance guy got a Kenyan name, by the way?).
The GoFundMe is a little confusing - "being used to offset mounting medical costs". Does he not have health insurance? Surely medical expenses after sudden cardaic arrest are covered by any insurance... $100k is alot of money. Or is his family riding the good will of the running community in asking for donations? Idk medical expenses GoFundMes have always rubbed me the wrong way but it's more of a policy issue that they're ever needed anyway and not specifically against him.

It might be a name in Kenya, but it's not a Kenyan name. Google seems to think it's Hawaiian

the person that set up the gofundme, rachel kessler, is his girlfriend who's probably aware of his health insurance situation. also she is in law school so one would think she would know what's allowed to be raised and what the money can be used for.
maybe he has a plan with a gigantic deductible and they want the very best PT or whatever after he is released that insurance won't cover. that seems necessary as a professional runner.
Justyn Knight donated $3315. I’m guessing that Campbell’s 5K PR.

Umm, nope. Campbell's 5k PR is 13:20 and 10k PR is 28:45.

Agreed on the confusing part. What are the reasons why this wouldn't be covered by workers comp insurance?

Thank goodness we've found another subject to b!tch about on this thread. Heaven knows we need a new controversy, filled with uneducated and misinformed conjecture. After the recent good news of his current health outlook this morning, I was afraid that the positivity might kill the thread. Thankfully, my fears were for naught. Are you people really as much of an @$$hole in "real life" as these boards seem to indicate?
Just speculation, but would seriously doubt this is seizure. Not impossible, but much much less likely. Though he experienced convulsions on the ground, this is much more likely to be hypoxic myoclonus which is very often seen with ventricular arrhythmias, especially polymorphic VT/Torsades de pointes. This is further evidenced by the fact that he was shocked by the AED. AED's can be fooled by artifact in the setting of seizure, but again, this is much less likely. AF RVR should never do this unless, as you alluded to, there is pre-excitation (WPW) allowing 1:1 conduction. One would have to see the ECG to know whether an accessory tract is manifest. Also less well known is the fact that these AED's can be retroactively interrogated for rhythm analysis. All too often patients arrive with no "strips" of the arrhythmic event and yet, if the device is retrievable, an answer can still be found. I hope they get a cardiac MRI to look for inflammation/scar (eg myocarditis) as well as morphologic suggestion of a specific cardiomyopathy such as HCM, ARVD, etc. Most importantly, his neurologic recovery sounds brisk and that's the best possible news!
I don't think it's out of line to ask for that type of money. I doubt they fully know what the cost are yet, but his partner likely has done her research or asked for advice on the estimates of the cost. And even without that, I think the running community is more than willing to help a person in need without questioning the motives. It is such a tough thing to watch, especially considering his age and fitness. We are happy to see him with all the positive signs of recovery and many are willing to chip in what they can to help relieve any financial burden.
Ray Flynn broke the bank with a massive $100 donation.

Im sure Ray will deduct his donation from the commission he gets from Kemoy.
