I don’t know about that. At the time she graduated she had the state record at 800 at 2:07.35, which she ran following her sophomore year and which according to the iaaf scoring tables is worth ~4:23 for 1500. At the state meet as a sophomore and junior, she placed 2nd in the 800 by tiny margins, and placed 2nd & 4th respectively in the 1500 with K. Flood solidly schooling her. She won both events easily as a senior in 2:08/4:29, and then ran the 4:26 state record after the scholastic season.
She also won state in the 400 as a senior in 55.5.
I got to compete at the Iowa state meet 3 of the 4 years Shelby was competing. Did a lot of ogling her and her teammate, we’ll call her Felon Docherty, in the field house of Drake Stadium.
