I'm looking for a place with lower property taxes that isn't a complete [email protected] hole. Decent running options required.
Colorado generally has low property taxes.
I live in a very nice suburb of Phoenix. 4000 sf new house.
No suggestions for you, but I feel your pain. I have a two-bedroom house assessed at $130K in upstate New York. Local, county, and school taxes add up to $8,500 annually. Plus we high state income tax -- probably similar to Illinois? Like you, I've never had kids in this school district (they enrolled where my ex lives), but I've trained on the track ... not sure that's been worth the $100K in school taxes I've paid since moving here!
Move to Germany. I pay so little in property taxes. The US tax system is actually as repressive as most non Scandinavian countries tax systems. I lived34 years in the US and the last 15 in Europe. You have all been fed a bunch of propaganda that you live in a free and capitalist society. You pay way more in taxes in the states then most people realise. And you get so little there. My two kids will get to go to college for free. And they will get a better education then I got in the states, and I had a mountain of student loans to pay off after graduation. It took 10 years to get rid of them. Wake up America. You are not living in paradise. You are the boiled frog if you know what I mean.
