Greeting from hot, sticky , humid Chesapeake Bay country...Decent running this week...missed yesterday but I played basketball last night..Will run 8 tonight after the sun gets lower...I missed my long run yesterday and feel horrible for missing it but my son had a away game and we had to leave early..then birthday party..sometimes life's duties must rise above my wants and needs...what I really should have done was run at daybreak...that way I could have gotten everything in...plus miss the heat.....hope everyone is running healthy and your lives are good..
OMBTS,
I'll be in your neck of the woods next week - spending a week in DC for the holiday. I'm not looking forward to that humidity.
8k yesterday in 27:30 - a master's PR for me. A side cramp probably cost me 15 seconds, but a good day nevertheless.
15 miles in the mountains at crack o' dawn this morning.
Now to the Sunday paper and morning coffee and cereal. Hope everyone has a great day and week.
JM
If you venture down to the Annapolis area let me know...We could do a run if you wanted...I try and stay away from DC around the 4th because of traffic...Its great if your staying there as a tourist...but to drive there on the 4th is rough..
Hot here in PA as well. Just an easy 4 today while my son was in the batting cage.
Wed: 2x1200 (4:05) & 2x800 (2:45)
Sat: 2x200, 1x1200 (3:51), 1x600 (1:43) 1x400 (64) 1x300 (44)
Week's Total: 48
Will miss this week's Philly Master's track meet due to work travel. Will try for the next one. Also thinking about running the Sea Isle (NJ) 10 miler on August 6th. Ran the Sea Isle race in 1976 (I think it was a half marathon back then and I went out way too fast). If anyone has run it recently, I'd be interested to hear about it. Have a great week everyone!
Good week for me.
I did a light fartlek workout Tuesday in which I stuggled a bit because of last weeks long run. I took the rest of the week easy so I could run decent at the PNW USATF masters championships.
when I got to the meet there were only 3 people registered in the 10,000, I was a little bit leary of running solo. as it turns out there were 6 or 8 runners.
A runner from Tacoma took the pace out good so I stuck with him through a 16:41 5k. I took the lead from there and ran the second 5k in 16:49 for a 33:31 total time.
I ran a 20 miler this morning which went good after working out the initial aches and pains
Day 14. Have only put on 3 lbs, so that is encouraging. 3 more pt sessions scheduled for next week, I'm hoping to start back on 7.01, simply for the symmetry.
As reward for my suffering, and to satisfy a long held itch, yesterday I bought a 1973 Olds 88 Royale, 455, 69K original miles, all electric-including the convertible top. Always garaged, cherry any way you look at it. Taking the family for ice cream in it just now, and oh yes, Go Longhorns!
Nice race Runinthesun. 25 laps!! What do you think about during?
Got in 57 miles with two days off, because of sore lower back from last weeks dodgeball game with the nieces and nephews. Gotta remember that I am 43 now and I shouldn't be popping off "matrix-type" moves while diving over 7 year olds.
Thurs 8 x 300 (42-44's)
Sat 3(500, 300, 200) @ quick mile/800 pace.
Sun Slow 12 w/8 x 100 for giggles.
Nice a cool up here in the Northwest. 65- 70 degrees.
Happy Summer
mainly just about racing. I am the same way in the marathon too. I just stay focused on the task at hand.
Summer has arrived in the midwest.
Both days were great for running. For all of you people that live in the sunbelt, it takes the better part of 11 months to get a warm sunny day here. (then we complain about the heat....isn't it great!)
Sa - Played baseball, ran with my 10 yr old (1 mile), and cut the lawn.
Su - 15 miles with the college guys (who are now back for the summer).
Good luck to everyone racing next weekend in the 4th of July events!
Good Job. 25 laps. That's a long way.
Me, I count my steps. Then I get confused and spend the next 24 laps trying to remember where I left off.
Personally, it was kind of an off-week. Lat Sunday, in the middle of no-where, on a route I've run a few times a year for the last 10 years, and, around a bend, I saw another runner. Never, ever saw anyone else actually running there before. Then another one- her husband (of course). Lucky for me we were still almost dressed. Anyway, I only had on a pair of shorts, and she was wearing the same. Oops- this is Letsrun, isn't it? Wrong forum. Sorry. Anyway, it was strange seeing other runners way, way out there. They said the same thing. It helps that I'm strange looking to start with.
Wednesday good 8 mile tempo run in 46:00, slowest mile in 5:47, fastest in 5:40. Felt good, but then, the last few days, too much horseback riding, and my butt's been sore. Rugged 10 this morning in a state park- one hill even has 700 feet of elevation, which is huge for around here.
Relatively easy week (running wise) for me with a local 2K race last Thursday night.
Saturday: easy hour run
Sunday: 8 x 150 quick and relaxed
Here are the results for the masters women's 1500m at nationals:

Just back from a week in eastern OR: hot, sunny, dry and gorgeous. Back on my namesake trail today in cool pacific northwest conditions. Ran 9 this morning with my dog and gave the Pittock Mansion uphill a good thrashing. Nice to be back home. Hang in there with the heat and humidity, OMBTS. It does make one a tougher runner.
WG, what part of eastern Oregon was so nice if you dont mind me prying..?
First pic of the 455 Rocket!
Was rafting the Grande Ronde River. 65 mile river trip. Spectacularly remote. Forested seguing to Hell's Canyon-like aridity. Starts Minam, OR and ends Boggan's Oasis, WA. One can continue and head to the Snake but the 20 miles after Boggan's Oasis is not known for inviting campsites: scorpions and rattlers abound. So, wanting to live to run another day I take out at Boggan's.
The array of wildlife (coyote, elk, deer, bighorn sheep, otter), songbirds (too many to list), raptors (eagles both mature and juvenile, too many others to list), butterflies and the very occasional rattlesnake make this trip a stunner. There are bears. Haven't seen one yet. Hang the food anyway.
I do quite a bit of wilderness adventure stuff and this trip is a yearly highlight.
WOW..!!Sounds like a adventure
Sat.: Easy 35 minute run.
Sun.: 1500m = 4:50, 800m = 2:21, 200m = 31.3
Windy conditions but I am happy with the results in both the 1500/800. Know I am in better shape. But, a few weeks of questioning my conditioning has been resolved. The 200m was part of a distance man's lark, several of us decided to run it as long as we didn't push and get injured (that would be bonehead). The winner of our heat ran upper 22 seconds after running 49 in the 400m (age 41). So smooth.
Wednesday starts a six week all-comer series which will help build some race confidence.
Good success to all.
