What are you lot supplementing with like 10,000 IU a day??!?!?! There's no way a vitamin D supplement is going to cause tendinitis at an appropriate dose.

You misread. That's 10,000IU what the body makes from sun exposure.
Per Vitamin D Council:
Exposing your skin for a short time will make all the vitamin D your body can produce in one day. In fact, your body can produce 10,000 to 25,000 IU of vitamin D in just a little under the time it takes for your skin to begin to burn. You make the most vitamin D when you expose a large area of your skin, such as your back, rather than a small area such as your face or arms.
I work outside combine that with 1-4hours outside of running/cycling that's enough Vit D.
As Runners/athletes we take supplements I've seen some Multis with as much as 3000IU taken daily=21000IU. You combine that with the 12+hours outside training/week and your body has to store excess Vit D. and this is where side effects:
Muscle weakness, fatigue, bone/joint pain happen.
Ha, fair enough! I didn't add that on to exposure to the sun as well.

Thank you again for this. I'm going to get my blood checked next wk (Vit D and Vit K?) and then go from there. I noticed I'm still taking in 1600 IUs/day of Vit. D between my multivitamin and mineral complex.
I would assume being winter that Vit. D naturally drops. Most people probably are not getting enough mid-day sun exposure (runners included) cause of early morning or evening runs. I had gone to midday runs and supplementing when I first found out last spring my Vit D was high. I tried to cut back, but it was still high this fall.
You read about Alberto Salazar having his athletes taking mega doses of Vit. D. Then to see Jordan Hasay and Shalane Flanagan struggling with stress fractures and injuries, maybe there is some truth to this. Too much sun/tanning bed/supplement is a bad thing.
Nike has the best cross training facilities anywhere for an athlete to rehab with a great team of specialists to help. She will be fine.
It's about one more big payday for Shalane. She will play coy and tease hoping the events will up the appearance money for her"last retirement" marathon.
It's crazy how different everyone is. I took 1,000,000 IU VitD3 over the course of a month, and I've never gone over 50 for the levels.
