Huge fan of the Hansons Method but no real differences from book one to book 2. Same philosophy just a little more depth.

Both Beardsley and Rodgers had no 10,000m speed, and I’m not sure if Beardsley even had a coach.
Beardsley had a coach, Bill Squires. Rodgers ran 13:42/28:04; the 10000m AR at the time was 27:43.
Both Beardsley and Rodgers were coached by Bill Squires.

We’ve had about 17 sub 2:10 guys. Look at their training and/or coaching.
Why limit yourself to today’s substandard American marathoners?
Guys like Durden and Tabb and Lawson and Beardsley and others, all slow for 10,000, yet consistently ran under 2:10.
So what’s that say about today’s so-called ‘coaches’???
Exactly....esp given the Vaporflys, strength training, nutrition, hydration, medical help, etc., of today vs. the 70's and 80's.
Alex, I'll take Coach Squires and Bill Rodgers for the win.
Not scared, but keep the long run in the optimal window for capillary development, myoglobin production, and mitochondria production, which is between 2.5-3.0 hours. Not going longer than 3 hours limits the fatigue, reduces the likelihood of injury and overall recovery time, allowing to bounce back two days later for a strength or speed workout.
LH wrote the book to explain that the Hansons method can work for elites and sub-elites but also for first-time marathoners who might be 3:30 or 4:00+ finishing times. Keeping the overall distance in balance for what the runner's ability level and development can handle. A (sub)elite running 6:00-6:30s easy pace for 2.5-3 hours is totally different than a slower runner trying to run easy pace at 9:30, which is why they're known for having the "shortened long run".
any runner in the elite road racing circuit knows both Kieth and Kevin Hanson's gimmicks and tomfoolery. Don't let the wool come over your eyes . ... it's all a ruse and smoke & mirrors. Why do you think 90% of them leave and go somewhere else?

What the heck are you talking about? They constantly are producing elite athletes. I've seen them take people with little to no talent to people who place among elite fields. Their plans and philosophies keep it so simple... Speed workouts, Aerobic Strength, and good long run. No gimmicks, just hard, consistent work. Read the book from cover to cover.
