She should just race triathlons again. All that run training will have helped. Triathlon racing can’t help her running.
Based on her latest Instagram, looks like she might be. Lots of emphasis on Specialized as a sponsor.

I pick up the same vibe!
Back to riding a 20-hour week. Dang.
She's still rocking Nike clothes in all her recent posts. Was Nike a sponsor back in the tri days? (I don't care enough to figure this out myself)

No. She was ASICS.
She is Nike for marathoning. Even Nike knows one bad race doesn’t break an investment.

Chicago wasn't a "bad race" for her. Her time was consistent with her 10K races on the track and at Peachtree and reflected her capability.

She ran 15:15 5K indoors and 1:10:58 half marathon in May. This equates to a 2:26-28 marathon. It was a bad race. She's not a marathoner.
Was it a bad race or is she not a marathoner? I say that she is not a marathoner.
Any reason why that 15:15 hasn't been certified? Was the track not to standard?

Another American runner who can make a decent living on the roads (5k-1/2 marathon) and help bring some popularity back to the sport (as in the 1980's road running boom).
They get too worried about making it on the track and marathon (and the Olympics) when they can make a living on the roads. Just MHO

She was 10 minutes off her predicted potential, so I'd say it's both.
not a marathoner. wrote:

It's a real stretch to project a marathon time from a 5K, much less so from a 10K or her previous marathon best. It wasn't a bad race, that's just her level.
It was her first marathon, not everyone has a home run on there first try. I'll wait to comment on rather or not she is a marathoner after she does a few of them.
I think it's a mistake triathletes make. They love cycling too much. Here's one of the comments on instagram where she posted going for a 3 hour bike ride to help rebuild fitness. "A morning run followed by a 3 hour ride. I love being able to use the bike to try to jumpstart my fitness." Response from fan: "If I remember cycling helps running but running doesn’t help cycling. Something I was told years sgo".
I disagree. The 3 hour bike ride is going to interfere with your running at longer distances. As a runner, you need to build your fitness through running only. Otherwise, you get injured because your fitness is greater than your legs can handle. A short bike ride for recovery is ok, but putting in 3-hour bikes isn't optimal training. Kipchoge isn't doing any cycling.

I posted her 5K and half marathon times to show she was solidly predicted to be around 2:26-28.
Kilian Jornet and Jack Foster both cycled quite a bit. As did Walmsley and Bonet.
I was having lunch with a high school buddy who works at the Swoosh and we were chatting Gwen and he says her reduction clauses would kick in at the start of 2019 if she didn’t hit her performance standards agreed upon both parties. We’re guessing she probably set 2:25 or so and then if not hit her base salary probably drops 50%. I would think that’s significant for her if she walked away from some Tri sponsors with the switch. I think her 15:15/31:55 are good enough to keep her working with BTC. She probably didn’t incorporate shorter distances in her contract since she is so obsessed with the marathon. My $.02
