Head Coach T & F but Asst. XC ... doesn't make sense!
Same thoughts here, especially since Olaf was known as a distance powerhouse

Linh Nguyen was doing a very good job of establishing a base of building the Toledo program back to a high level. I also know he was very well liked by those in the program. I expect he will do a great job at Emory.
Agreed. Good luck Linh Nguyen! Emory may be Div III, but it's better than a lot of Div I schools in many ways!
“...Establishing a base to bring back to a high level...!” What’s that mean? The guy took over a program that had gone to multiple NCAAs in a row as a team and turned it mediocre when previous coach’s athletes graduated. Sounds more like he is perfect for D3 if “everyone liked him”.

Yup this is a win-win. Emory is a better fit for Linh, he'll be happier there. And Toledo will hire a coach that has more experience. Congrats to both sides.

didn't he have to clean up a toledo program marred with sexual abuse scandals ?
Not really, he just replaced the guy that was doing it. But the team was extremely successful before. It's not like he inherited a team that was last in the region. He inherited a team that had qualified for nationals 4 out of the past 5 years.

I ran for Toledo men’s team when this all happened. It was nothing like what it was made out to be and anyone in the program (minus 1) would tell you the same thing. Everyone moved on and many/most of us still keep in touch with Coach both men and women and enjoy his acting career stories.
Coach Linh is a really nice guy. He cares and is very passionate. Nobody would really say anything negative. What was tough for him was following someone that had such a huge personality. It was just different. Coach Hadsell’s personality was unique and most of us went there specifically to be coached by him.
So... Andrea getting the nod or what? USF silent? Rutgers throws? Cal assistants staying? Anybody know about anything?
i know several women from that team who would not agree with you.
Thanks for chiming in Emma. Yes we know you and Sam and your issues. We ALL knew. So if it makes you feel better, yes. The two of you had issues.. other than you two, name one. You probably know who I am and how tied in I am with both teams. Let’s move on and let the adults in the room talk about their jobs.

Boy are you ever so right about this one. She is a basket case! ISSUES!!!! So sad
You have to wonder if this type of thing would make the guy even less likely to be hired at another school? Would an athletic department be hesitant to hire someone that has already sued another school? I don’t know either way so just a legit question.

The real discrimination in this field is against men. This isn't made up. Just a few years ago a guy won a gender discrimination lawsuit against Iowa.
https://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sports/college/iowa/track/2016/01/27/university-of-iowa-settles-male-track-coach-discrimination-lawsuit/79403556/"Scott's attorneys uncovered a June 4, 2013, email in which track and field coach Layne Anderson tells assistants that he had rewritten the position's job description in a way to attract more female candidates. "It is once again largely driven by the mandate from the administration to hire a female ..." Anderson wrote in an email."
and
"he was warned that administrators wanted a woman and that then-Director of Track and Field Larry Wieczorek even joked that a sex change might improve his prospects."

I have no dog in this fight and do not know any of the players. I am a high school coach who has had several recruitable young women over the past several years. What I meant is after the Hadsell stigma, better high school athletes avoided and did not even consider Toledo. Once established, Nguyen has started to again get some higher level athletes from Ohio which is a solid recruiting base. Those that he has gotten have shown to be on a strong developmental path toward past levels of success. Being well liked helps current team members to spread the word to potentially higher level recruits. This upward spiral is how most mid-majors develop a program. It appears to me that Nguyen overcame the recruiting drought and had things on the rise. I know women from the high school program I was attached to are now considering Toledo which was not happening a few years ago.
People on this site amaze me. You people think that track hires happen as fast as football hires. Football and basketball have their own unique set of rules. In minor sports we have to go through the entire HR process which can take a couple off months.

You are not black!! Let me pick apart how we (black people) know so...
(1) 99.9% of us would not use the words fake news as an anonymous user name.
(2) 99.9% of us would not have been emotionally triggered/distracted by the use of the word “white” in front of men and looked passed the terms “too many”...thus understanding this comment wasn’t directed towards all white men.
(3) 99.9% of us would have referenced black children more in terms of “our” and not used terms such as “their” as if we have no connection to the harsh realities racism, mass incarceration, school to prison pipelines, and the deep ramifications of slavery (oh s*#t there’s that trigger word) that HELPED create the struggles OUR communities. Not to dissolve personal responsibilities which is sprinkled in there for some but more importantly as not to stigma an entire group of people who truly are victims (oh hell there’s that victim card)...to do so would be hmmmm racist!
(4) 99.9% of us would not need to disclose our blackness . We don’t relate to our comments with “I have black friends” correlations...we just let our words speak for themselves. We’ve stopped “proving” our realities long ago (especially younger generations)
(5) 99.9% of us would have never said “the only things that should matter when applying for a job are qualifications and character” because we know those things should be true if it wasn’t for the complex concept called REALITY!
(6) Finally 99.9% of us would have understood the commenter’s point (even if not articulated thoroughly) because we (as COCs aka coaches of color) receive those racial questions from some recruits and parents of color about the campus, city, and program. It’s sometimes coded as “how is it there?”...a question specifically asked of COCs.
Nice try...so stay on this thread’s focus on coaching jobs and comment as fake coach in the know!!!
dude, come on. this is uncalled for. are any of these comments necessary on a jobs discussion thread? even if you believe this to be true are you so thin-skinned that you are compelled to say divisive things like this? that said, Vanhoy to UNC is in the works.
The article says he's at Missouri State. They probably didn't even know he had sued his previous employer. I think some schools would see that as a warning sign. But if he is a good coach then he'll find a job.
Ironically, Missouri State is seeking a new Director/staff

They knew. The lawsuit is not news as this has been ongoing. The verdict is.
Jesus Christ.
