I am still in the process of settling the case. Fortunately, the woman admitted to liability and it was not a case of hit-and-run. However, due to my recovery, I have had to turn down a job offer I received three weeks after the incident because I had not been appropriately cleared through my neurologist.
Man that is super tough.. so sorry to hear that. Any idea of what you expect to receive?
For reference - I had a friend who suffered a horrible dog attack/bite incident that resulted in his quad being damaged severely. He ended up getting $50K-100K or so.. it took a WHILE to settle. I hope you're able to get some FU money out of this incident, as you deserve it!
Thank you for the support. Above everything else, its just been a mental struggle. My life has been flipped over after being a seemingful “go-getter” in college.
Lawyer is letting us take our time with it. If I were to guess, aside from insurance/medical co-pays (adding up to $10k last I checked), I’d be anticipating somewhere around $30-35k, considering the job I turned down would have been $30k annually with benefits. But this is something new to me.
Unfortunately, I still see differences in myself from pre-accident so I think that type of issue may be the centerpoint of our case. Planning to start seeing a therapist in 2019, which the stigma and whatever is understandable with me. I don’t see anything wrong with it. But I wouldn’t have seen myself going there considering what I was able to handle in college (A/A- student, RA, three-sport athlete, two part time campus jobs) and a strong support system keeping me going throughout. This has been a different obstacle to overcome.
