Hello all, I was hoping I could get some advice. In August, I was hit by a car that destroyed my bike and left me with a concussion. I missed some time from work, got a couple hospital bills, and was now without my fairly nice bike. I brought the bike to a bike shop and none of the parts were salvageable and the frame was cracked. There was a witness at the accident and the driver was 100% at fault. The witness called the police and they filed a report. After the accident, the driver refused to communicate and cooperate; he wasn't answering calls and I was hoping we could resolve the issue quickly so I could get a new bike. That led me to hire an attorney to represent me, hoping that I could resolve this issue while I'm at school (as a university student). The dialogue with me and my attorney wasn't great but fairly periodic throughout the semester; the attorney basically said there's that can be done right now since I was studying outside of the US, we had to wait until I had a follow-up check-up once I'm home in December. The attorney told me he would deal with the property damage and forward my third-party damage assessment (from a local bike shop) to the car owner's insurance. Anyway, it's December and I finally got a check for 1/5 of the value of my bike. As a university student, that's not enough to buy a new bike. Moreover, without warning, the attorney voluntarily withdrew from my case. The dialogue wasn't great with him, but I spoke semi-frequently with the case manager and I was doing everything that they asked.
That being said, what do I do now? Do I try to find another attorney? Do I plead with the insurance company? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!
