Excuse me, but I judge people on their words and in these days when overt bigotry is becoming increasingly frowned upon in some (not all) parts of the world, reading between lines is often the only way to uncover a person’s true beliefs.
Have you considered that Langford might know a bit more about the background of Bett than you do?
Don't know if that's the case, but a little research on Wikipedia reveals that the county Bett was born in has a poverty rate of 44% and where one in five people are illiterate.
It is a bit nauseating that someone as yourself - who even if a real Kenyan - has clearly benefited from an expensive Western education (whether in Kenya or outside), thinks this is a good environment for Bett to grow up in, and wouldn't have influenced his choices as to whether to cheat for financial gain or not.
