Gordon: I like the plan. I think there is something to be said for an "offseason," when you're still running... maybe even training... but not necessarily aiming at anything specific. For new runners, having a goal race is almost always important as a motivation to get out there. Once you're in the lifestyle, being out there regularly is just what we do and you can afford to run around for a little while trying to find an angle to get a broad view of the bigger picture. When you're ready to aim at another target, my guess is that you'll be physically prepared and mentally sharper.
